Something funny that was said to me

Yesterday at work, a coworker asked me a few things about skydiving. He said, what happens if your parachute comes out and the lines get all tangled up, and when you try to cut away you drop the knife when your trying to cut your lines. I started laughing and could not stop. He really believed that you have to cut away your parachute with a knife. After I stopped laughing I explained how it is really done. People who don't jump surprise me when they ask questions .

Two points:
First, many CReW dogs and instructors still wear hook knives.
Secondly, will someone please explain why we still use that so hopelessly out of date expression?

Well I'm sure that there are some people out there who have saved there ass with a hook knife cutting away an intanglement of two chutes. Plus I've read on this site of CREW guys/gals that wear up to 3 knifes at once. If you didnt need them they wouldnt sell them, so in his defence I could see his piont! I do think it is very uncommon though. Anyone have any experiance cutting away a mal woth a hook knife?

I did explain reasons we might use a knife. But he had no idea we had a handle to pull that cuts away our main.

In the UK, every jumper must wear a hook knife. A bit anal if you ask me, but a reasonable rule.
Ands as far as CReW dawgs, I've seen guys with 5 knives on them, and not hook knives either: real kick-ass hunting knives....
