Packing time (how long does it take you?)

Recommended Posts

Hey all......with me and my 1.5 hrs last night of trying to pack that canopy, I hear some of you guys can pack yours in just a few minutes.
Tell how long it takes you to pack your canopy and that you would jump it without second thoughts about your pack quality. I am just curious on how fast I can look forward to packing it. Woohoo!!
(Please, feel free to post your number and explain (if you want) along with voting in the poll. I would just like to hear of how much you all throw it in the bag. :D

How long to pack your canopy?
I don't pack my canopy.
0 - 5 minutes
5 - 10 minutes
10 - 20 minutes
20 - 30 minutes
30-60 minutes

Most of the time I go slow just cause I don't like to hurry. If I'm trying to make a load I'll definately get it done in less than 10 minutes. I've seen Chuck close the container in about 2. I guess it helps to have that tiny little main......:)"and I'm not easily impressed...Ooohh look...a blue car!" -Homer Simpson

I take a little closer to 20 cuz ya just can't trash pack a Sabre. :P So I'm real fussy about clearing the lines, quartering the slider just so and rolling the nose. Gives me really nice openings but I have to do all that stuuf.
When I demo'd other canopies, I've closed in as quick as 10 minutes -- especially when trash packing.

I generally pack in about five minutes. I can do it in four, sometimes less, but that is only to catch a hot-load I was double-manifested for. Taking my time and bullshitting, I am normally done in about six minutes. It's not rocket science.
Very-slippery, brand-new Icarus or PD parachutes need to be Psycho packed if you are in a hurry. It's just the simplest way to keep that bad oscar from squirting all around on you. Being an Atair pilot (ahem..), I don't have that problem; Nylasilk rocks!

I was going to say how long, but I think she pretty much summed up what I would have said anyway!!!

i've done the 5 minute pack job before... but usually 7-10. sometimes i'm just plain lazy so i'll take my own sweet time.

Let's just say that with a "normal" King Air flying b-to-b loads without fueling...I can be down and packed before the next load lets the jumpers out:)
Otherwise, due to previous back injuries - I take a little longer most of the time!
