Hey Gerald,
I wouldnt say to loudly that your from SA (you'll be guilty by association of being like Creamer!.. ;)
Seriously, I wish we were purely joking about this....
In the good ole USA, Canada and many other places (I think the UK too), you can jump whatever you want, as long as the DZ lets you in the plane... and some people do...

Lemme edit this before I get misunderstood...
I'm not sure putting a blanket statement like "no eliptical under 200 jumps" is the right answer either. Designs may change, maybe a 1.1 loaded large cobalt is fine after 100 jumps (dont know, never seen one).
But the same way you know sleeping with your sister is wrong (alledgedly, I'm a only child ;)), so it should be for a 60 jumps person to jump a Vengence at 1.4.

No, in the UK when you are new at a DZ you have to get a gear check along with your docs, they then make a note of your gear and it gets a DZ tag. Also if you downsize your main then you have to get your paper-work in manifest updated. If an instructor is not happy with your over-eager down-sizing they can refuse to allow you to jump there. I know in the states it is not a formalized procedure and it varies from DZ to DZ how strict they are.

PS Gerald - even by Canadian standards Remi is exceptionally thick, I'm just surprized he hasn't been typing 'ay' at the end of every sentence! ;)

Its eh, not ay!!!!! :P
But as far as controls for canopies, its not a rule, its a DZ thing... and that is the case for any gear... if a DZ decides not to let jumpers jump what they see as a dangerous rigs, like, say a Reflex or a Wings (JK folks), its their call... even if its TSO'ed up the ying-yang... which is pretty much the same in the UK, CDN and the US.

Phreezone I don't know how to tell you this, but Canopy Nazis are ALWAYS chicks - women get off on the whole 'well in MY experience...' and 'I TOLD you so...' thing.

Sorry screamy, Canopy Nazism is non-sexist... I'd say the same things to a female novice that I do to the guys. Not that I'll ever have to cuz after all women have more common sense than men.... ;)
In my experience, I've heard lots of guys say "in my experience." Yeah they're usually discussing sex...
And I forgot to mention in the official dubbing ceremony.... Canopy Nazis are NEVER allowed to say "I told you so". Reserve the right to say it, yes. Think it, yes. Say it? No. Pain, titanium, plaster and being grounded say it better anyway.;)
pull and flare,
lisa

Touchy touchy touchy

Not really... just got tired of telling a newbie at the DZ that going from an F111 Astrobe 215 to a Sabre 150 with nothing in between is'nt the bst idea..... took a long time for him to get the concept of steping down..... And I'm actually serious about getting a 135 in the spring and hopefully a 120 by late summer. I've just got to save for a new container/reserve to fit the 120.....
I'm not sure what to put here right now.....

I've actually seen mods by riggers where they place a "spacer" in the main container so that a smaller main would safely fit.. Then you just have to buy a smaller D-bag, and not a whole new rig.. Another benefit is that you get to keep a bigger reserve.. My Mirage is built for a 120 main/160 reserve.. I like small mains, but small reserves scare the hell out of me..

Thats the combination that I want on the rig, but only Mirage is willing to build it. If I could Afford a Mirage I would, but alas... 220 jumps this year, new rig, camera, bachelors degree this year, and a florida trip in December have wiped out the checking, savings and Visa accounts. LOL..... Guess I need a Mastercard soon huh?

All the more reason to ask around to see if your local riggers can do that mod, or know of anybody that can.....or call the rig manufacturer and ask 'em..
