Question on a term...

Recommended Posts

Hey! I've been lurking here for awhile mainly b/c I've only had one tandem jump and didn't want to post just to be posting. But I saw the term "scr" mentioned in one the earlier threads. Could someone please tell this poor newbie what that is?
I'm doing AFF next year. I really wanted to go on and do it but in order to keep peace around the house, I had to promise my hubby new music equipment before I spent money on skydiving. I've really enjoyed reading the posts. It helps to pass the time until spring...
Thanks

SCR= Star Crest Recipient. That means you were on a free-flown (no grips on exit) eight-way or larger formation.
SCS= Star Crest Soloist. That means you docked eigth or later on an (obviously) eight-way or larger formation.
Both are awarded by the Bob Buquor Memorial as testament to proven relative work skill.

The Bob Buquor Memorial Star Crest is now administrated by Bob Newell. Applications for any of the awards ought to be available on any DZ with any salt to it. If not, then the applications are available by mail for sure. The address is always listed in the back of parachutist magazine every month; Skydiving also, unless I am mistaken. There are actually several really neat awards that are offered by the same foundation. Some involve building a formation, then flying individually through a Hula Hoop, then re-forming the formation. SCR and SCS awards are also awarded for night jumps (the patch is black).
Once again, some dropzones keep the practice alive and well as a sort of stepping stone for the younger jumpers. Others rarely if ever do SCR/SCS specific dives for the purpose of obtaining the award. Personally, anything that involves skydiving and partying is good in my book!
