Just who are you talking about Ann? If you don't know them or anything about them then why are you trashing them? I have never gotten down and dirty or attacked anyone and neither has Julie, John Kallend or Alan Binnebose, etc. Julie and I only got numbers as a joke. In fact we basically just decided to take numbers and drove Espen crazy so he finally gave them to us. It was all in fun. Most people got their numbers for being tenacious. They are not given for being mean or cruel. I'm pretty sure none of us have ever sent a virus, certainly never on purpose. I know I have NEVER sent one and I resent your implications that I did. All I ever did was be nice to you. Thanks for doing the same.

Well sure, if you want to be technically accurate. I was just think for logistical purposes, it would be easier to use the 4 wing-tips. The desired affect is still accomplished, though maybe not in the exact sense of "quartered"

print out the article (its already been aproved for public reading..right?) and copy them. distribuate them. put them up at the local grocery store, wawa, walmart whatever. they all have free ad's boards.

I don't know why I mentioned taking pics of the Halloween costume just yet (I think I was lit! big surprise) but right now I am thinking maybe this nutbar who went off on Sangiro needs to know who he's up against? Although maybe he wouldn't be afraid of me, with my whips and chains...?! (Even though he SHOULD be!) Maybe someone else needs to dress up as a Sumo wrestler or something...that might get this wanker's attention!

Donna, nobody is saying that your presence is not appreciated, but you are falling on your sword for the wrong cause in this instance. Defend ALF-ism all you want ("officially" numbered and otherwise), but the fact of the matter is that the majority of people who casually browse that forum don't see the "disclaimers" that some people post prior to loosing their assinine trolls and responses onto the NG. It is for that reason that most people get upset or just stop monitoring. Sure, but they are kept in check by moderators and the great majority of sensible-acting posters. They also keep their off-topic banter confined to this talkback forum. To me it is a terrible shame that wreck-dot is abused the way it is. The great majority of people who access it are just looking to see what's up in the sport. It makes me crazy to see someone post a serious question only to have it slammed and ran completely off track within five minutes by a crowd of morons intent on nothing else but stirring up trouble. I say take all the bullshitters and create something called "rec.skydiving.slammer" for them. That, or have them come to this talkback forum and see if they can keep their chatter within the confines of a moderated forum. Anything to clean-up what ought to be a fantastic reference to all skydivers, but cannot be in it's current state.

I can truthfully say that I have never felt the desire to literally kick anyone's ass for what they have written here; I cannot say the same for my experiences there. Do I still logon and read the NG every day? Of course, but I am disappointed with what I see and it's a very rare occasion that I ever post anymore.

If everyone in the WTC jumped out with a static line parachute, chances are most of them would get into a canopy wrap with another jumper or a midair collision and die anyway. Think about it...tens of thousands of canopies in that little space. Not possible. The safest way was the stairs, unfortunately, there was not enough time to get everyone out. I think this guy did not really think this thing through, and he has some kind of chip on his shoulder about skydivers. Maybe it's because he knows his little static line jumps are not real skydives and are nothing compared to a real skydive.

Actually, the problems with viruses like nimda, code red, etc arent sent to the server via posts, etc.. Those viruses can EASILY be prevented by keeping the server software properly patched against such attacks. Sure, its time consuming to do, but so much less than rebuilding an entire file/web server.
I should know, its my real job ;). Many times my job includes going in and cleaning up after morons who think they know what they are doing.

PS. yes it is possible that it also happened via an attachment, but not as likely. best idea is to keep your system at home fully updated using the microsoft windows update (win98 and newer), and ALWAYS ALWAYS run a real time virus scanner like Norton Antivirus. (hint: virus scanners have to be updated every 2 weeks to a month to work)

Regarding Donna: She would never do anything to hurt another person, nor would she send them a virus------period.
Regarding AirAnn: I don't recall her taking much of a hit on the wreck, just that someone (Bruce, maybe?) questioned something about her website. It didn't look like such a big deal to me.
Regarding the ALFs: There are fourteen of us, some of whom aren't even active. We are: Espen, John, Povl, Peanut, Donna, Alan, Ann, Don, Snuffy, Wendy (I think), three whom I can't remember, and me. Which of these constitute the minority of ALFs who are "decent people" besides Alan, whom you've already named? Which of us scared AirAnn so badly?
Regarding disclaimers: I've only seen one. Who else has one besides Don?
Regarding rec.skydiving: It's an unmoderated newsgroup. There's nobody there to protect you from being offended or having your feelings hurt. I've been offended and had my feelings hurt there before, too; but I'm a big girl and can take care of myself without much whining. I'm glad that I looked beyond the fun that was poked at me when I was a ng newbie, because I've learned much from those whom you probably think are assholes.
When I lost a close friend in a BASE accident, it was Snuffy who helped me get through it with kindness and the wisdom of one who has lost much in his life.
Another close friend of mine was seriously injured in Sept., and it's been Don Jardine a.k.a. "Treetop, Lord of the Skies" who emails me to check on his progress----he's never even met him.
There's more going on in that newsgroup than the casual lurker knows, but you only find it if you look beyond what's on the surface.
And wear a thick skin.

believe me when I tell you my skin is PLENTY thick. That, of course, has nothing to do with the general nig-noggery on the wreck or the original post. I spent two years regularly posting there (wreck-dot) before I discovered dropzone, so I am no "casual" lurker. I did, though, keep away from adding to the noise and nonsense. I posted away diligently trying to answer those who had bonafide questions with educated answers. Does this make me "stuffy" or anal? Uh, no; absolutely not. I made quite a few friends "over there" and have a ton over here. Hell, I was on Peanut's 200th jump! I am not big-headed and am entirely approachable, both in the forums and in person.
Anyway, all the other stuff between Donna and Ann was a big misunderstanding in my opinion. I am sure something happened to Ann's files, and I am also sure that Donna had no part in intentionally launching a virus. Both are nice women and I enjoy corresponding with each of them.
As for you, missie: welcome to "the other" forums. I hope you like it.

Maybe this Mike guy is on to something. Even though he has probably never skydived or base-jumped in his life, he ought to put himself in a similar situation that the people in the twin towers were in and then do the jump. I'm sure that would show all of us what a good idea those things really are. I mean really, if he watches that "instructional video" that would come with the escape parachutes he will be more than prepared.
