Bridge Day cancelled

According to Avery, Bridge Day has been cancelled this year. Please spread the word.

That's crazy just yesterday I was just looking through BASE jumping sites and came across that one. I thought wow that's soon. It looked so cool.

That sucks. I know a few people who are going to be pretty pissed off.
Here's some info I found on rec.skydiving:

I just got a phone call and apparently, because of the requirement for people to supply both SSN and drivers
license information, the event is going to be cancelled. The general feeling is that the request for this
information was unreasonable and some are concerned that law enforcement will use this information
aggressively to check for anything from unpaid parking tickets to back child support. Because of this
possibility, many of the people who organize and work at the event, people who are active BASE jumpers, are
reluctant to attend leaving the event with no or insufficient support.
Please note that as of 6:45 EST, I have not been able to verify that there will not be jumping from the bridge
this year but I expect that Avery will post any information to the BASE board this evening. UPDATE: The
information has been posted to the board now so I guess it's official.

Has this anything to do with the fact that the authorities were asking for SSNumbers and drivers licences for "security reasons" after the terrorist attacks - just a sneaky way to build up a data base of active jumpers perhaps??

so this really sucks i was really looking forward to bridge day. i'm very depressed, i think i may go jump off a bridge or something. (can anyone drive a getaway car for me?)
