udder 0 #1 September 25, 2001 G'day all, man do i have shitty parents, unbeknownst to them i have already saved up three quarters of the cash to do my AFF. I need some advice in trying to explain to them my wish. I wont mention anything to them even remotely realated to skydiving or they would probably kick my ass. Any advice is more than welcome or I will have to pay some road-side bum to sign my indemnity form, although he might cost a bit more.Peder" Shit is happening." Pammi 0 #2 September 25, 2001 Quote...or I will have to pay some road-side bum to sign my indemnity form, although he might cost a bit more.Bwahaha! Sorry, that's hilarious!Better 'fess up dude. Not like they won't ever find out. How old are you btw? You might end up needing their help to buy your rig after you graduate, so might as well start working on them now :)Oh, and make sure they get enough information about skydiving if you talk to them about it. Have answers available, and perhaps the number to the DZ, so they can ask further questions you might not be able to answer. Most people's fears come from lack of information, about more then just skydiving. The stories the newspapers write about accidents and fatalities in skydiving doesn't help, either. "..died when their parachute failed." We all know it's a bit more then that. That's why everyone asks, "So what will you do if your parachute doesn't open?!" Good luck!PHemp/skydiving jewelry pics! skymedic 0 #3 September 25, 2001 Uh oh...calling your parents shitty will get Cloud9 on your ass calling you some type of ungratefull kid or something...best thing to do is talk to your parents about your desire...and remind them there are bums out there that will do it for ya!!!! jfields 0 #4 September 25, 2001 Quoteremind them there are bums out there that will do it for ya!!!! There are probably a lot of "bums" right here that would do it for you. But still, best to do it the right way.JustinMy Homepage
JMC 0 #5 September 25, 2001 I waited 'till after my first jump to tell my folks. Probably a good idea too. My mom said 'Thank you for not telling me and don't tell me if you are going to do it again.' I don't know how old you are but I am 32 and haven't lived with them for about 10 years. I am going over to their place tonight but won't mention my last 2 AFFs unless they ask.John
udder 0 #6 September 25, 2001 Thanks all. So how are my fellow bums doing? I am 15 and will be 16 in a few months. Well I have resigned myself to the bums, for a bottle of Jack he said " I can do anything you want." I might get him to go to teacher interviews as well. Thanks allPeder" Shit is happening" Me
heathmor 0 #7 September 26, 2001 If your parents don't want you to jump it's not cause there shitty it's cause there scared.SO just tell them, my parents would have been cool with it when I was 15 but my parents were cool with pretty much everything.(we had really good insurance!!!) Why do want to jump? You have a friend that you know. If so take him with you to talk to your parents. This just seems weird your not afraid to jump from a plane but your afraid to talk to your parents. If you want I know some people there(I met online) that might hold your hand for you when you face those mean people that supported you and raised and took care of you for almost 16 whole years! Do you know how much that cost's. They could have just abandined you then you wouldn't have to worry about it. Just kidding what is the worst that can happen they say no and it costs you a bottle of Jack then. Heath If your not living on the edge; Your taking up too much space!!! Albatross 0 #8 September 26, 2001 O.K. dude (yes I am a California boy)! I am going to give you the shock of your life. I'll bet that if you do the research and calmly and rationally present it to your parents and show them that you have done all the work to save the money to make it through the AFF progression they will not like but will respect you enough to help you a bit and sign the papers. The most important thing is to get all the safty information lined up so that they are not convinced that you have a 1 in 2 chance of not coming home. Maybe suggest that they come in here and talk to us. If you need some support PM me and I will help if I can.God bless us and God Bless AmericaAlbatross
LittleJumper 0 #9 September 26, 2001 This is actually pretty funny. I'm a parent of 2 kids, a 20 yr old & 13 yr old. I'm trying to get my 20 yr old daughter to join me and she won't!!?? My 13 yr old son wants to go, but he's too young. Just the reverse of you!!I'm all for it, as you can tell, and if I were your parent, I'd say...do what makes you happy, but remember, you have to pay your own bills : ) But the other great advice i heard was have your parents call the DZ. They'll be able to give some solid and verified information for them.

Your parents aren't always going to agree with your decisions and as you get older you will find that they trust you enough to support you in them. Hopefully anyway. You don't want to introduce anything in the incorrect fashion as with any other sort of extracurricular activity. GWEARS.COM ~Skybaby

udder 0 #12 September 26, 2001 well, i want to skydive casue im sick of hugging the ground, i dreamt of flying one time and it was more like falling so i thought i better give it a try.I done the aerobatic flying and thought i might pass out(from boredom), I also live by this quote, "There is nothing to fear , but fear itself, the rotweiler down the road, and that girl i wanna ask out" I dont think its crazy jumping out of a plane, its a calculated risk, like waking up every morning is a risk, or going for a pee.(Its risky for me cause i keep my pet alligator in the toilet) Anyways thanks for the help, I will wear them down, drone on worse than Larry King and i think they will sign just to get me out of their faces. And could i get gear for about $1500 bucks? Remeber to stop and smoke the.... i mean smell the roses.Peder"Shit is happening" Me

udder 0 #15 September 27, 2001 yo skyhawk i think it is, i was talking US$.I noticed that a rig would set me back about $2500 US. Since this forum is mainly full of septic tanks(yanks) I quote in American dollars.
freeflir29 0 #16 September 27, 2001 I paid $1,000 USD for a Dolphin D-2, PD 190 (less than 100 jumps) and a 5 cell swift reserve. The reserve was a little scary but it got me in the air for four months until I bought a new one. This isn't a deal you will run across every day but it is possible. NathanL100 0 #18 September 28, 2001 Hey, if all else fails you can do what I did. Tell your parents your going to get a motorcycle, something like a CBR 600, and then once you've successfully given them a stroke, tell them a few weeks later that you want to try skydiving before you buy a motorcycle and they will be so relieved that you are putting off buying a motorcycle for skydiving they'll jump at the chance for you to find another outlet for your adrenalin fix.-Will Skydive for BEER!!!-Nathan
JumpHog 0 #19 September 28, 2001 I waited until after my first jump to call my mom and tell her I had done it. Both of my parents thought that I was out of my mind, and begged me not to do it again. Well, after 700 jumps and many talks with my parents, I have not only convinced them that skydiving is safe, but they are both scheduled to make their first tandems on Sunday. They are both anxiously awaiting making the leap. I never thought I'd see the day, when I would be skydiving with both of my parents. I will let you know how it goes. Blue Skies. cedarit 0 #20 September 28, 2001 I have made a total of 57 jumps within the past three year; I have a super-over-protective mom. I've stopped counting how much I've spent on the sport so far; I have a mother who's always concerned about how carefully I spend my money, as I'm still going through college. Not exactly the best conditions in which to tell her, so my solution is... I didn't! It took some careful planning and plenty of imaginative tactical excuses, but I've managed to keep this thing a secret from my family for far longer than I've ever expected. In case you're wondering why I'd ever do such a thing, it's because I truly feel that being truthful about my activities is exponentially more dangerous than jumping out of any plane; I swear there must be a big red warning label on my mom somewhere...Honestly, though, although I sound like I harbor ill intentions towards my family, that's totally not the case. I love them, and in due time--I imagine not too far off--I will come clean, and maybe invite them to try it out. But right now, that whole prospect is just too scary.-Jeff
Aviatrr 0 #21 September 28, 2001 Hell, my parents didn't know I had even thought about skydiving until I had been jumping for a few months, had over 100 jumps, and broke my leg.......the last part was the one I couldn't hide.. Mike
freeflir29 0 #22 September 29, 2001 My Mom gave up when I took a job in the Air Force that required me to crawl into visual range of the enemy and blow the shit out of them. After that Skydiving was nothing....Besides...my Dad was a Skydiver when they got married.
