abraxas 0 #1 September 23, 2001 Hey all,I am a level 3 AFF student and have a couple of questions for future reference. After I graduate, I plan to purchase, in the following order:1. Slipstream 2 jumpsuit2. Altimeter (probably an Altimaster 3)3. Helmet (probably an oxygn A-3)Anybody have input on this? I am mainly interested in comments on the A-3 helmet. Who has one? Pros? Cons? I'd appreciate any info at all. After I get my A license, I'll be back on asking about rigs etc but this is all I need to worry about for the momentThanks for reading. I also posted this under the safety and training forumDS

skybytch 273 #3 September 23, 2001 If you'll be buying the helmet and plan to use it on your student jumps, check with your instructors before you buy to be sure that they will let you jump it while still on student status. Many instructors prefer their students to jump open face helmets because the lens on the full face helmet can limit their view of your face. You only need the A3 version of the Oxygn if you want your audible to be mounted on the outside of your helmet. Mounting the audible outside is good if you access the audible often (checking info on a ProTrack, changing alert altitudes often, etc). If you prefer that your audible be kept safe inside the helmet, get the standard Oxygn. Audible mounting location is the only difference between the Oxygn and the Oxygn A3.pull and flare,lisa---Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious
Jumperpaula 0 #4 September 23, 2001 Quote prob better response if u post in gear forum they be smarter over there :-) Are you saying I've been posting with the dumbasses this whole time? I have a LOVE=HATE thing with my Z1. It's come off my head twice in freefall (on deployment) but both times, I've gotten it back in remarkable condition, protrack and all. So, I can't tell if it's damned or good luck. Fly Your Slot !
freeflir29 0 #5 September 23, 2001 "So, I can't tell if it's damned or good luck"I don't think I would trust anything that can free fall and survive. It's kind of like another creature that bleeds for seven days and lives........LMAO"This conversation ends right here Captain! lewmonst 0 #9 September 24, 2001 hey david, that's great you are starting to think about gear...altimeter is the best place to start, and goggles, find ones you really like, comfortable...i'd say no rush though onthe helmet and jumpsuit...for one thing, what kind of skydiving do you want to do? RW? Freefly? An A3 is great for belly, not preferable for freefly.I have an A3, which i almost never use anymore since I got my bonehead mindwrap and start freeflying more...I wear it for RW dives also, camera and all. and i had a protec, open face, went to the full face, liked it, but i like the open face better, but that's just me...For anyone with 3 jumps though, i'd suggest borrowing student gear as long as possible, until you know where in skydiving you're headed... (get it, head?) nevermind.anyway, as for the jumpsuit, same thing, is it a RW or Freefly suit? and do you know how fast you fall, and if you need a slower suit, wings, drag, weights??? i'd say wait until you get about 30-40 jumps to think about ordering a suit, until then, borrow one from the dz. then as the people you jump with with more experience if they think you need to adust your fall rate... a suit makes a big difference...take your time... talk to you soonlew
