freaksister 0 #1 September 6, 2001 Well, I am finally realizing one of my goals. I am going to attend the canopy school at Skydive Deland!!! For anyone who doesn't know, I am nearly obsessed with canopy control...it has always been my "thing." I am not "bad" but I want to stand up more than half the time and I want to land in the peas!!So who jumps at Deland? I'll be there next weekend, Sept. 14-17...SisI lust for the ultimate rush... VivaHeadDown 0 #3 September 7, 2001 If you meet anyone from ERAU (my old school and club) tell them Kris Reynolds says hi! There were always about a half dozen of us out there at any time either jumping or working, so the odds are actually pretty good now that school started back up! skymama 37 #4 September 7, 2001 Hey Sis!I'm so psyched that you are coming! You will learn a lot from Scott Miller. I took 3 lessons from him and want to take some more. The knowledge that he has about how a canopy works, will really help you feel more relaxed. Sometimes I still biff a landing, but that's just because I have a problem with flairing too high.Unfortunately, that's my busiest work weekend of the month! I work Friday night, and Saturday during the day, but I could come out on Saturday night, (I get off at 6), and party with you. I have Sunday off and am planning on jumping. Now, you just have to work on skymedic and avitarr to get their butts out there too!AndreaThe brave may not live forever, but the timid may not live at all. Aviatrr 0 #5 September 7, 2001 Quote So who jumps at Deland? I'll be there next weekend, Sept. 14-17... Cool.. Who did you talk to about the canopy control thing? There are a few of the guys there that do it.. I'll head out on the 15th and/or 16th, but I'll be working the 14th.. Who else is gonna show? Andrea? Marc? McFly?Mike
freaksister 0 #6 September 7, 2001 Wow, cool! So I may get to meet some more dz.commers?! SWEET!!I haven't actually talked to anyone yet (this could be bad??)I sent an email this morning...and I'm going to call tomorrow morning..My plan is to do 10 hop-n-pops...and during this time, when I meet some cool peeps, then do some fun jumps too! I can also take some of my hop n pops and turn them into normal alti jumps for a bit of extra money if I need to! I want to meet you guys! I already made my plane reservations! I will arrive in Orlando on Friday, Sep. 14 at 11 PM. I plan to rent a car and drive to the DZ (it is only like an hour, right?)...and I depart Monday the 17th at like 8 AM.Cheerio! Come party with me guys! Even if it is just for one night, I want to meet you!! Hugs,SisI lust for the ultimate rush...
jtval 0 #7 September 7, 2001 good luck sis, youll enjoy deland!!!! alot!!!Gettin' high is fun, but coming down is the best part!!!JT
freaksister 0 #9 September 7, 2001 Thanks, Spectre...that makes me feel reassured. I was hoping that the money would be well spent! There are only a few (3?) true canopy schools in the U.S., and I think Deland's has been around the longest. Note to all:Every DZ should have a canopy control school!!! If not an official school, then at least a way for jumpers to get scheduled, one-on-one canopy instruction by a coach! DZ owners, operators, managers, or staff members please take note! You may not realize it, but there are quite a few jumpers out there who would like to pay for additional canopy instruction, whether on the beginner level or to learn to swoop! I've talked to a lot of fellow skydivers who would like to do this, but "vacation" money and time are an issue. It isn't easy to just fly to Florida or California for the weekend! You could make a few dollars and more importantly, save a few lives in the process! You can try to just hook up with someone at the DZ who offers to help you with your accuracy or landings...(trust me, I've tried!) but it never seems to work out properly...the concept here is similar to SDU. My $.02...Sis (feel free to copy and paste the above message to your local DZO! Please!!)I lust for the ultimate rush...

Actually, I don't think they'll want you to go to full altitude on any of the canopy control jumps.. They want you to get out around 5k so that the area is clear, and you have it all to yourself.. The only people that normally get out at 5k(other than the canopy control people) are the PD test pilots doing test jumps.. Quote I will arrive in Orlando on Friday, Sep. 14 at 11 PM. Cool.. What airline, and where's it coming from? Never know - I may end up on that same flight.. If so, you'll recognize me by either the uniform(guys in pilot uniforms sitting in the back stand out), or(if I have time to change) the guy in shorts, a skydiving related t-shirt, and drinking heavily.. It will take about an hour from OIA to Deland that time of night..Mike
skymedic 0 #11 September 7, 2001 Sis, I will be there saturday dont know If I can jump. I hurt myself at work. but I will definately meet you then.WOW, I actualy get to meet THE SIS....MarcBecause I fly, I envy no man on earth
DZBone 0 #12 September 7, 2001 QuoteActually, I don't think they'll want you to go to full altitude on any of the canopy control jumps. The Perris Extreme guys do one full-altitude hop-n-pop so you can see how various control inputs effect the canopy flight. It helps to have someone flying next to you so you have a reference point. Using the ground as you get close to it presents certain difficulties. I'm seeing a trend here.......every time people get together at Deland, Marc can't jump for one reason or another.. I think he's afraid of being seen with us.. I never fully understood EXACTLY what each input did until I got to experience it side by side with another canopy.. I don't know whether or not they do this at Deland - I have not taken the course there..Mike

I haven't seen Marc since the last time we all got together either, and we only live 10 minutes from each other. There's something fishy going on. *sniff* maybe we're not good enough for him! In other news, I don't think the Skyvan will be there that weekend because it is going up to Tennessee to Marvin's Boogie. skymama 37 #19 September 9, 2001 Damn, Marc...what the hell? That is really something to read when one is drunk! All I can say is, I hope you claimed Workman's Comp!AndreaThe brave may not live forever, but the timid may not live at all.
Aviatrr 0 #20 September 9, 2001 Quote That is really something to read when one is drunk! How the hell could you be drunk?! As I recall, you drink LIGHT BEER! Don't rub in the fact that you get to skydive and drink this weekend while I get stuck working.. I'm sitting in lovely Minneapolis tonight, and off to Chicago and Austin tomorrow.. No skydiving for me..Mike
skymama 37 #21 September 9, 2001 Quote As I recall, you drink LIGHT BEER! I can attest from my headache this morning that, yes, one can definitely get drunk off light beer! Besides, Mike, I have to watch my girlish figure. You don't have to be too envious of my jumps. I'm not jumping today and yesterday I only got 2 jumps in because we were on a reallllly long weather hold. But, since I got my first head down jump in, it was a very successful day for me!AndreaThe brave may not live forever, but the timid may not live at all. Ya know, the guys you're always jumping with.. Quote You don't have to be too envious of my jumps. At least you got to jump.. Flying over Texas today - on the way to Austin - I heard "Jumpers away at 14,000 over XXX airport"... DAMMIT! If my rig had been there, my co-pilot would've had to make the call....."Jumper away at 35,000!" Mike

flyhi 24 #24 September 10, 2001 Sis,Jumped Deland once and as great as it was, one of the things I remember most is the sand. Unfortunately, not where you land, but where most of the up-jumpers pack. If you pack yourself, take a packing mat and small brush or rag. If you can afford a packer, they do it inside. A few people were able to slicky a place inside to pack, but not everyone, especially if it is busy. I wasn't. Everytime I opened the top of my helmet got sandblasted. But it's skydiving out of big planes and it's great. Have fun. Skydiving is like sex, either it's good...or it's great!flyhi
