DZ child care

Recommended Posts

It's hard to get our jump numbers up where we live so sometime in the next year my wife and I are going to take in a tour of American Dropzones and jump our butts off for a couple of months. Since we have added a little one to the family we have to think about childcare while we are there. I was wondering if anyone has info on childminding facilities at any of the major DZ's around America. Which ones, what hours, cost etc etc. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Ed

Um...they are called airport rats. Everyone just kind of plays with them as the roam around freely. Seen many a airport rats grow up to be productive skydiving community members. I know I gave about 10 piggy back rides to a couple of rats just the other week.

Have to agree with monk on this !! everyone at my DZ just keeps an eye on the kids running around. My little girl (2yr) goes with me and gets to play hackey with the ohter jumpers. I even had one guy come up (i new him of coarse) and tell me go jump I'll watch her for ya! Even offerd to let me demo his safire 169!

Ooh, Monk, when I see one of the guys play with the kids out at our dz, I think that is SO sexy! Way to go!

I second that! I really appreciate when fellow skydivers are so good to the kids. If not for that, Merrick and I wouldn't be able to jump much at all. For the most part, the kids know how to act, and what to watch out for at the DZ, but kids being kids, they get bored and start pestering people sometimes. I try to do the best I can to prevent that, but it's really great when the DZO gives them rides on the golf cart, or friends play or talk to them. They really love their friends down there as much as we do :)

I was just another jumper for a while then I brought my daughter to the dz. Now I'm known as being Sierrah's dad. When I show up everyone's like "Hey, Sam." When she shows up her friends are wildly screaming "Sierrah!!!!" The little shit has more friends than me. The caring attitude at the dz is what keeps me jumping.

When my son was visiting he loved going to Skydive, Atlanta. The only thing that made me mad was that every time I turned around he was talkin to another hottie! That kid got all the play! He's six so he is old enough to stay out of trouble for 20 minutes while I ride to alti. He always made me spend a half hour catching grass hoppers for every jump though..LOL

You know, I've had more attention from the ladies since my daughter was born than I can ever remember. Who would think that kids are babe magnets? Not much good that is now I'm happily married and off the list... oh, wait, this is still good, they are potential baby sitters!

I'm always afraid to bring my kids because I don't want them to step on somebody's rig or get into someone's stuff. I have LITTLE ones, and god knows they get into everything. This is why I don't bring them......but if there were an actual daycare, or babysitting service....lemme tell you!...............I would be there all the time! But since there is not, I guess I'll just have to stick to going once a month (or so). I HATE THAT!!! :(

And was he ever a cutie. Obviously he had me wrapped. I agree, Clay, that everyone there looks out for your kids. My 7 year old has Pinyon wrapped and they both had Bradford trained. Plus the guys are always playing with them to get my attention!!
Back to the original question of babysitters....My oldes is almost 13 so if you want her to watch yours while you come through Skydive Atlanta just let me know. I will not be responsible for them being spoiled after a weekend with her, however.

Edid: Call ahead or send a email and tell DZ that you would be interested in a babysitter. There are lots of staff and regulars that have older children who might be available. Or, you could take along a nanny of sorts. Great that you are able to enjoy the sport with your family.
