scottcave 0 #1 September 16, 2014 I'm a Sr. Rigger looking to buy my first industrial machine. I've got a line on a functional 545 at a great price. Anyone familiar with this machine? I've never used a walking foot. What would the strengths and weaknesses of this machine be in the context of a rigging loft?
monkycndo 0 #2 September 16, 2014 Strong machine. Built like a tank. Big bobbin so plenty of working time between bobbin changes. IIRC, 9/16" foot lift for thicker projects. Only negative is when it needs parts, more expensive than old school singer. If you keep it oiled and keep it free from lint, should last a long time.50 donations so far. Give it a try. scottcave 0 #3 September 17, 2014 Well, I bought the machine. It seems to be working great. Hums along like nobody's business! Only problem is my wife's face has this rather deep scowl that doesn't seem like it's fading very quickly.. is this within normal operating specs or should I call someone to get her serviced? I have the same problem here. I called around to see about parts and service for her but everyone laughs and says the only solution is to get rid of it and get another machine but they all have defects, some worse than others so it's better to stick with a model that you know the quirks. -Michael
