What's that mean?""I can jump with other people, and I don't have to use student gear anymore.""And it took you... 30 jumps to do that?""Yeah...""30 jumps? That's a lot. It doesn't seem like it's that hard, just get out and pull your ripcord before you hit. It's not like you have to learn how to fall down."Gahhh...! But I've almost got him convinced to come out and do a SL... he'll learn. Marc

bbbilly14 0 #3 August 21, 2001 And you have to learn that those who don't jump don't understand that this is a really physical sport, if done right, or even wrong! It isn't about pulling the ripcord before you hit the ground (though that helps the death thing a bit). But, they will NEVER understand this whole gig, unless you get them to jump enough to get them into an AFF or AFP program. I think they doen't really want to understand. It's unfortunately that easy. chicagoskydiver 0 #5 August 21, 2001 Whenever one of my whuffo coworkers asks about how long I have before I have to pull my ripcord, I tell them that first of all, I don't use a rip cord, it's something called a throw out pilot cute, and from the time I jump I have the rest of my life to use it. No matter how many times I tell them I don't use rip cords they still refer to pull time as "pulling the cord".Hackey

riggerrob 643 #8 August 21, 2001 Let's face it, most of what the news media knows about skydiving it learned from barnstorming barkers back in the 1920s. Then they parrot this hopelesslyl antiquated information to the public who swallow it verbatum, like the good little consumers they are.
PLFXpert 0 #9 August 21, 2001 I have to agree w/ Spectre230. You just have to learn to accept that whuffos just do not get it. It's not just skydiving, though, it's pretty much all sports. The professionals on T.V make it look so easy. It still annoys me but only for a minute before I realize they're just whuffos and they don't matter when I'm flying upside down w/ a big ole' grin on my faceMuch love and blue skies,Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/
