FastEd 0 #1 August 19, 2001 I'm a very poor student so an entire rig is a few months off methinks, but I'm getting myself and alti and maybe a suit pretty soon, so I'd like to know what you guys think of the Alti Master III and whether you can find it anywhere for cheaper than $149 with the hand/wrist mount?Out of interest how much does it cost in US gear shops at your dz's if it isn't too much hassle to have a look? Cheers, Ed
freeflir29 0 #2 August 19, 2001 Love my Altimaster III. I just surfed to SkyKat.com and they have it listed for $145 USD. Plus shipping of course. I have heard nothing but praise for Altimaster's customer service in a variety of situations. I have never had to deal with them as I have never had anything go wrong with mine. It's always spot on and my son even dropped it (Cringe) on concrete a few weeks ago. Still works like it oughtta!"Say sweet thing...Can I buy you a fish sandwhich?"-Leon PhelpsClay
SkydiveMonkey 0 #3 August 19, 2001 My housemate just got an Alti 3 and he rekons my FT50 is better. It's all personal preference. I like the slightly larger face on my FT50, but Alti 3's are cool. freeflir29 0 #4 August 19, 2001 "I like the slightly larger face on my FT50"I guess thats the Senior citizen version of an altimeter. SkydiveMonkey 0 #5 August 19, 2001 It's only about 1/4 to 1/2 inch bigger than an Alti 3's. It's 10 times easier to read in freefall. Don't pull low, unless you are Alex@SkydiveUPSC.com
Zennie 0 #6 August 19, 2001 I like my Alti 3 as well. I've dropped it on concrete God knows how many times and it still works fine.------------Blue Skies!Zennie

mountainman 0 #10 August 19, 2001 QuoteIt's 10 times easier to read in freefall.I didn't think that 1/8 in. would make something 10X easier to read. If you need something bigger than an Alti III to read in freefall, you should get your eyes examined. Not saying the 50 is bad, but the alti is great BECAUSE it is small. It fits great on your hand. Doesn't feel like you have a clock face on.Love my Alti III!!!--------------Drop on in...leave a message

FastEd 0 #14 August 20, 2001 QuoteFasted,Hey dude, I like my Alti III so much that I got one for special friend...and she loves it as much as I do...good luck with your search...The money i save getting it cheap will probably go on the phone bill that it takes me to find it cheapest!!Anyway thanks everyone for the feedback, I think I may go for one when I find it as cheap as possible, beer is very important for my student diet so I can't afford to spend an extra 2 pints getting it for $5 more!.On another note, I know of SkyKat and Para-Gear but are there any other good equipment selling sites? can i get the thing direct from the manufacturer?Cheers for the info people, my eye sight is fairly good so i should be able to read it ok!Ed - formerly known as Hellian, but my account went to the dogs so i changed, HH wanna stick my 100 + posts across to this account? Dutchboy 0 #15 August 20, 2001 I jump with an Altimaster III on my wrist and an FT-50 on my chest. I prefer the Alti-III overall, I feel that the quality of construction is better. The Alti-III also seems to agree better with the aircraft altimeter than the 50. My 50 reads about 500 feet higher at altitude (so which altitude do you think I log?).I got my Alti-III for $106 brand new on an auction at this website. The FT-50 was used, and cost me more to buy as a chest mount. The Dutchboyhttp://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
mountainman 0 #16 August 20, 2001 Hey Hellian, I was wondering who this was after the England and Emphforia(sp) DZ post. Anyway, if I were you, check out Paraquip and see if that compares. If there is no price, then e-mail Steve. He is my gear guy at our DZ and sells things cheap. Good luck buddy!!--------------Drop on in...leave a message
freaksister 0 #17 August 20, 2001 Hey Ed, good to hear from you again! We are all partial to our own gear stores...I like Rigs-&-Things. Roy gives the absolute best, most personal service I have seen! You can get there from here: http://www.para-service.com I also like the service Larsen & Brusgaard (sp?) give you after you purchase a Pro-Track or Pro-Dytter. I think you have to buy one from a dealer (not sure) but they are excellent when it comes to service. I have no intention of ever buying an audible made by any other company!!Good luck on the alti search. I think Rigs & Things runs specials on them all the time!Be safe in the sky!SisI don't want the meaning of life, I want the experience of being alive! sblue 0 #18 August 20, 2001 Just a quick note on the Alti III's. I currently jump and FT-50, just for the reason that the face #'s are bigger, but talking to Kathy from Alti-2, I have learned that the face design will soon be changing somewhat, and that they now have removable/replaceable lens. I will be switching soon. Also, if you call her, ask about the new cool tye-die patterns. Blue Skies,Shawn
