Rhonda66 0 #1 August 9, 2001 I'm trying to find some new and exciting things to do and I was wondering what else you all do for fun. I joined AMA and started flying model airplanes recently and already soloed, I bass fish and I started to take flight lessons, but don't have enough money right now to finish because I'm a student. So what else can I do? Not that I'm tired of skydiving, just trying to find out what other things I might be missing out on......Rhonda
DZBone 0 #2 August 9, 2001 Well, I haven't been able to do this for awhile, because I've been travelling for work, but one of the things that I really loved doing during the week was singing in a large chorus. This sounds lame, but if you have never been harmonizing against 70 other voices, a piece like the Brahms Requiem, you have no idea. If you have done it, you know what I mean, if you haven't, there is no way I can explain it to you. Sound familiar? Hehe.Anyway, I really miss it.Oh, and there's also Tantric sex, that's pretty cool.Other than that, it's work, skydiving and nest building.Carl
Rhonda66 0 #3 August 9, 2001 hehe - if I had any singing capability at all I would love to try it, but unfortunately I wasn't blessed with any gifts in that area... :)Rhonda
outthere 0 #4 August 9, 2001 Where to start????For me skydiving is an addition to many other things that let me feel alive and keep me occupied.I know this borders on blasphemy here but... Climbing, both rock and mountaineering, is probably my #1 pursuit. During the winter I ski as much as possible and would probably have to place that as my #2.I used to fly airplanes, but the $$ output for the return just wasn't happening for me and is one of the reasons I got involved in skydiving instead. On the quieter side, I work with Bonsai trees, do photography and dabble with ceramics.e
mountainman 0 #5 August 9, 2001 I am all about outdoor sports such as camping, hiking, and mountain biking. In the winter, I like to ski. It all depends on how much time you have and where you live. I guess that I wished that I lived somewhere better than crappy Ohio. Oh well.--------------Check out our all-new website!
lazerq3 0 #6 August 9, 2001 I like to play my guitars, ski in the winter and go 4x4 in moab Ut. Other than that just hang out with my wife and little girl.(shes going to be 2 this saturday) . My little girl that isjason
nimbus 0 #7 August 9, 2001 mmm... skydiving's the only sport-like thing I do, unless you count yoga which is great for mind & body, and the gym a few times a week. As for other exciting things, don't have many suggestions... not much time unfortunately between work (which is generally fun) and study (part time archaeology)... I write (stories), watch lots of movies (saw The Right Stuff for the first time last weekend - great movie!), read lots (nerdy swat-brain)...(well that stuff doesn't sound exciting when compared to rockclimbing etc! god, I sound really boring ) I'd love to learn to fly a plane... oh and listening to music of all kinds... recently saw the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra do a Tchaikovksy special... the Swan Lake finale is incredible live with a full orchestra (now I've blown my cool-chick cover completely!) And watching whales (mothers plus babies) down on the coast is pretty exciting. You could always try spinning round and round really fast and then lying down on the ground! Or you could go to a protest march/rally and join in the lame, double-negative chants (ie., student-anti-fee rally...."What don't we want? Up-front fees! When don't we want them? Now!..." but I'm getting silly...oh but my most exciting thing right now is planning my trip to New York in October with a stop-over in California on the way! FallinWoman 1 #10 August 9, 2001 I try to keep a lot of things in my life. I tap dance, lift weights, play piano, root for the Cardinals, go to bars with whuffo friends, and try a variety of wines. The wine thing is my favorite....(besides skydiving, obviously.)Blue skies,Anne
Zennie 0 #11 August 9, 2001 Well, lesseee.... I'm a computer geek by trade & hobby. I like to SCUBA when I can get around to going somewhere with decent water. I do quite a bit of reading... lot of Eastern philosphy (duh), though lately I've been reading The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine, which is excellent. Just finished The Hitchhiker's Guide (again) and am trying to get around to reading The Return of the King (i.e. Lord of the Rings Part III).------------Blue Skies!Zennie
FallingMarc 0 #12 August 9, 2001 Well, since you asked... Music has always been a major part of my life... singing, playing, going to concerts, whatever... doesn't matter if it's thrash metal or classical, I can find the music in both. Seriously, last week I had to decide between going to see Les Miserables or a concert with Poison and a couple other 80s hair bands. It was difficult! Ended up at the musical...So if you've got any interest in music, I'd say perform. That's the most fun for me anyway. Playing this friday night... waiting to go onstage feels strangely like standing at the door at 14000' for the first jump of the day...Marc

You'll be a better person for it (and it's a better language, trust me, I've used both). DZBone 0 #19 August 9, 2001 QuoteI just assigned myself a Java coding project todayAnything fun? Wanna help me finish a little thingy I tried to write to simulate weights on springs? Maybe a dive planning/log book thing, or a proper manifest/dz operations system, or an Intranet-in-a-box, or a WAP interface to dz.com, or a three-tier media (mp3) server for home networks, or a code simulator for EMS training, or any of the other lame ideas I have but never have time or $$ to do anything about? Aviatrr 0 #20 August 9, 2001 Quote I'm trying to find some new and exciting things to do and I was wondering what else you all do for fun. Other than skydiving, I enjoy doing SCUBA, mountain biking, boating(both power and sail), and occasionally rock climbing.. Every now and then I go fly some aerobatics - which will probably be more often in the not too distant future when I buy my own aerobatic airplane - and would eventually like to compete.. I used to fly RC airplanes and gliders(have a glider with a 16' wingspan), but not so much anymore.. I got kinda bored with it.. There's not really anyplace to fly my gliders around Florida, either, unless I have 'em towed up by a power plane.. I used to launch 'em off the cliffs in San Diego when I lived in SoCal.. Most of the time, I'm either working, skydiving, or just lounging around.. Now, if I can just find a woman that likes those same things - with the occasional trip to do the other things I listed above.. MikeOh, BTW, when you bass fish, do you wear one of these? Zennie 0 #21 August 9, 2001 QuoteAnything fun? Yeah, actually. I have a lot of Swing/JDBC background and I've been doing some database work as of late. We have several DB tables that need to be filled in simultaneously so I wrote a little GUI that displays the current view contents in a JTable (on a JTabbedPane since we have different views). I have some dialogs I pop up to let the user fill in the bare minimium of what's needed to populate the tables and then let the software do the relevant lookups/inserts for the rest of the stuff. Heckuva lot easier than doing the updating by hand in TOAD. I've always sort of wondered about the manifesting software. Some sort of browser-based interface would be kinda cool.------------Blue Skies!Zennie

PhillyKev 0 #23 August 9, 2001 I race autocross occasionally. It's a lot of fun, not too hard on your car (but hard on your tires), not too expensive, and anybody can do it. There are SCCA (sports car club of america) autocross races all over the place. It usually costs about $20 for the day and you get about 6 races in. You race against the clock, not other cars so you don't have to worry about collistions. It's basically like a big go-cart track...a big empty parking lot with cones laying out the course. Lots of turns and slaloms. Top speed is about 70mph and there's nothing to hit except cones if you spin out. People do it in everything from porsches to old beat up VWs.Solo II Racingcielos azules y cerveza fría-Kevin
Iflyme 0 #24 August 9, 2001 Well... I used to scuba dive, but haven't been out for a long time... I play hockey whenever I can, love to do the camping thing with my family, play my acoustic guitar and sing (anybody remember "The Exit Song"?), have a video camera glued to me much of the time, and I like to brew beer. I also have a 6" telescope I peer through at the beautiful night sky. As my kids are 9 and 7, I spend a lot of time doing stuff with them, so I find myself at the ball park and the soccer field throughout the year. Dar 0 #25 August 9, 2001 mmmmmmmmmmm.... there's life besides skydiving????okay, I guess I do other things... I take tai-kwon-do, snowboard when it's too cold to skydive, I run a lot (gonna do my first 5K this fall), I go to the gym and get buff, I just got into photography... but I really only like to take pictures of skydiving, so I guess that's not a seperate hobby... I also ground crew for some BASE jumping buds... thought last time I did that, I ended up with a $200 fine for vehicular trespassing on a bridge... a misdemeanor... what a joke... LOL... I don't really do much of anything else that is interesting... except hang out on the rooftops of San Diego's high rises whenever I'm out there. And I'll be doing my AFF Level 4 in 2 days.... YEAH!!!!Blues,Dar
