skymedic 0 #1 August 1, 2001 I had a bit of a slipup(or is that down) yesterday at work. we got called out for an MVA with injuries and possible fatalitie. I was at the scene on top of an ambulance looking for another victim, because the one they called us out for was WAY dead. (he flew out of his car and tried a superman impersonation)Well I was up there trying to get a better view point as to where this guy went. (he ended up about 70 feet away and about 40 feet up into a tree, this guy also thought he was from Krypton) we had dogs and all sorts of other people out there looking. we finaly find him in said tree. he was bad off but here I come to save the day. As I am trying to get down off the top(they have a ladder up there) I slipped on the top rung as I was turning around.Next thing I know I have a bunch of flashlights in my face and everybody is saying "what do we do now"....not good when I was ONLY flight medic on scene.(our little jet ranger only has enough room for me, my patient, and the pilot)Well they end up sending Superman by ground and then I got a ride to the hospital too. first time in the meat wagon for me(as a patient) mean while I find out somebody got this on tape too. the good thing is I am doing ok, I didn't hit my head(instinctual PLF?)and just have some serious bruising on my L shoulder(which hit first) L elbow(which hurts like a mofo), a nice black and sore hip too....and one hell of a bruised ego....oh well life is short and who else can say they fell of an ambulance. by the way this is one of those monster ambulances that are like 10+ft tall.Ah the life of a flight medic....MarcDid somebody call a medic

froggie 0 #6 August 1, 2001 ah marc. every EMS persons worst nightmere. sorry to hear you got hurt, and even sorrier to hear that you couldnt help your patient. I hope to God that I never know what that feels like. .... This is why the ground crew (EMTS, police, paramedics, firefighters etc. etc) should do this stuff. Flight medics are there to treat while en route via medivac. They should have done this work for you. geeze, the patient in a tree.. been there, searching the woods in the middle of the night for the missing victem. not pleasant. kel
