Sinister69 injured but will jump again

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone.
Nelson Woodford, aka Sinister69 here on the boards, was jumping with the dz.com'er's practice record attempt first jump of the day, and had a bit of an accident. He has broken his left tib and fib, about 3 inches up from the ankle. There is no muscle or circulatory damage (thank god). They have not done surgery at this point. Nelson says they are not intending to, although that still may have to happen.
He wanted everyone to know he will be back on the boards as soon as he gets home (likely sometime Monday or Tuesday); he also said that he will be back in the air as soon as he can. He says thanks to everyone at the dz who was worried about him, and especially to Albatross, who spent most of the day with him at the hospital.
Nelson has also promised to flare on time from here on out.

Guys don't let Michele fool you, I kidnapped her as she walked on the DZ and she didn't even hesitate to come sit with and help Nelson all day. She didn't even blink at the possibility of missing her graduation jump or the DZ.com boggie or that she had tons of beer for the day and had done all this work. I can say that Nelson has one great friend in Michele and I count myself lucky to know her. Any of you should be as lucky as to have even one friend like her. Michele not only are you a great woman, friend and person you are fast becoming a greaat skydiver. Much love.

alright guys.. whos finding a way to sneak the lap top into the hospital room, 'borrow' an outlet, find a teli line so that we can keep Nelson comfortable?if it was at all possible we'de open the pub 'specially for him.
but seriously, im sorry to hear about the injury but unbelievably relieved to see that it will be okay. its not okay right now, cause theres broken bones there and i dont want to take that lightly, but it will be okay in time.
until we see you again, well be thinking about you and wishing you lots of pain killers too. (id wish you to feel better but the reality is, your bones are broke, its gonna take time to feel better. so for now "lots of painkillers!!"

can you read?? just curios b/c its spelled out for you.

Sorry, perhaps I should've been more explicit in my post. I meant, how did it happen?
Injuries are always devastating and I'm really sorry for Sin - if we know how it happened we can learn from it.
Sorry if I missed something but the post above just says he 'had a bit of an accident' and implies he didn't flare - was this due to turbulence over trees/ distractions from several jumpers under canopy/ small landing area/ late turn or what? My friend had the same injury, 7 pins and 2 plates, and there are numerous possible factors that contributed, ie the canopy was quite fast, the winds were high etc.
If it was just a late flare my apologies.
Hope you heal quickly. Take plenty of glucosamine sulphate / vit c / aloe vera juice and if you can get it, horsetail tincture, that shit works.

hey all. thanks for all the sympathy. I really need it, especially since I won't be able to jump for at least 5 months.
This accident was totally my fault. I didn't flare in time. I started my flare for landing too late, foot got caught under me then snap.
thanks again for your support everyone.

OK, accounting for uncertainty and recurrency, let's say you're back in fighting trim in six. That's (mumbles numbers to self) end of January, so...
Mark your calendars now. 16-17 February 2002: Valentine's Day/Nelson's Return Boogie! :)
