Zennie 0 #1 July 14, 2001 Since I've been dabbling in freefly lately, a thought occurred to me. I have a Z1, which I love, but I've noticed that you don't see too many freefliers wearing a full face.Is it primarily for aesthethic reasons that they don't (i.e. so the can geek for each other and the camera) or are there aerodynamic issues?I really don't want to drop yet another $180 on a Bonehead, plus I can wear my glasses in my Z1.------------Blue Skies!Zennie
Vlad 0 #2 July 14, 2001 I freefly in my Z1 no problems. It never came open, always stays secure. I like it.
cyric77 0 #3 July 14, 2001 I've flown my Z-1 while freeflying, and have never had any problems. I have also seen a lot of other people at my DZ using their Z-1's, and I have never heard anything negative about it. I don't think that its much of an issue, but I would ask a more experienced freeflyer at your home DZ if your still a little skeptical. Blue Skies!!! skymedic 0 #4 July 14, 2001 I saw a guy lose his faceshield but it was his fault he didnt triple check the thing. before that he said he could do sit, stand and head down with no worries...Marc
Brokeneagle 0 #5 July 14, 2001 Zen, I've played twice so far at sitflying/freeflying; my Z1 was just fine-- I think it's just more of the freeflying market that Boneheads are aimed at. If you really want to get a Bonehead without spending the going rate, check out one of the auction sites, like the Sunshine Factory-- I got a great price on my Z1 there... Zennie 0 #6 July 14, 2001 I've liked my Z1 while freeflying with it (sit & head down), and I haven't had any problems. I'm just kind of new to freeflying so I wasn't sure.------------Blue Skies!Zennie
Dutchboy 0 #7 July 14, 2001 Z1 is great for any type of flying. I think most freefliers just prefer to have the wind in their face. Me I like the quiet fall, and face protection (especially at FF speeds). The Dutchboyhttp://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

VivaHeadDown 0 #10 July 14, 2001 Plenty of people, new or experienced, will FF in a fullfaced helmut no problem. I hear that it's easy to hear your dyttr in those things. I've always jumped a bonehead and have one of the older versions where the pro-dytter is mounted on the inside and it took me a while to get used to hearing it. It's sorta quiet, but not once you become accustomed to the timing and the volume. I hear the new ones with the pouch on the outside are also pretty quiet, but again, it's just something you have to get used to over a couple jumps. AggieDave 6 #11 July 14, 2001 Only once did I totally dislike not having a full face...January. Other then that I can't see myself wanting one, there is just something about having the wind in your face and hearing it. AggieDave '02-------------Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags!BTHO t.u. Aviatrr 0 #12 July 14, 2001 I can freefly with any type of helmet, or none at all.. Doesn't matter.. I have a Z1 that I use occasionally, but mostly I use my Velocity(open face freefly helmet).. I have a camera mounted to my Velocity, so I almost always jump it.. Don't let anybody tell you that you can't freefly with a full face.. It will NOT affect your flying abilities..Mike
Macaulay 0 #13 July 14, 2001 I love the wind on my head. I jump without a helmet on solos (always wear one with others). I was thinking of getting a fullface for those times when it's freezing or when I don't feel like wearing goggles.- Macaulay
Geoff 0 #14 July 14, 2001 Z1s are generally OK, but with Oxygns, A3s, and sidewinders (otherwise excellent helmets for RW), the visor can flip up due to the high wind speed in a sit or standGeoff
