lazerq3 0 #1 July 5, 2001 I read in some past posts that some of you take things up with you like cameras. or drinks or what not. I was just wondering if anyone has ever ran a pair of head phones (the kind that fit into your ear) under your suit with a helnut on and free falled to a kick ass song. Kinda like that kid in the movie IRON EAGLE that couldnt fly worth a shit unless he had his music on. Of coarse I'm assuming you wouldnt use a audible alt. Would this be safejason
PhreeZone 20 #2 July 6, 2001 I doubt that you would be able to hear anything over the wind. Even if you did, under canopy you might become a little too engrossed in the music and forget to keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel. Its been done before but unless you are an experienced jumper that can deal with multiple distactions at the same time while flying your canopy then wait to try it.Whoa... That was cool! what42 0 #4 July 6, 2001 I don't know about in freefall but under canopy this would be cool. I'd like to do a hop-n-pop from full altitude with some good music on the sunset load and watch the sun go down. Sounds like a great end to the day to me.Wesley--I'll see you at 13,5 amongst the clouds.
lazerq3 0 #5 July 6, 2001 I think if you use the head phones that sick right in your ear and had a helmut on with it cranked up you'd be able to here it during FF. Just like you can hear an audible.jason
RemiAndKaren 0 #7 July 6, 2001 At Nouvel Air (Quebec DZ), they were using at some point full face helmets for the PFF instructors with a microphone, and a modified Protec with big ass headphones built-in... And for fun jumpin, some in-ear headphones would work fine with a full-face (its pretty quiet with those)... But I wouldnt recommend it... you should be able to hear others after opening in case someone is yelling and charging at you after a off-heading opening.... Dutchboy 0 #8 July 6, 2001 I saw a guy doing this with an MP3 player once. He was the only one I ever saw though. The Dutchboyhttp://www.geocities.com/ppolstra
Zennie 0 #9 July 6, 2001 I thought about this early on. You could easily do this in a full face. My only problem would be that I'd be so busy jamming out that I wouldn't hear my ProTrack going off. On a more practical front, friend and I have mulled over taking two cell phones up with the wireless headsets so we can talk in freefall. It'd be really good for RW...."Um, Ted? Just WTF are you doing?" ------------Blue Skies!Zennie
SkymonkeyONE 4 #10 July 6, 2001 There are plenty of people that do this. Watch the movie Travelling 2 and you will see Patric de Gayardon skyfurfing with one on. From experience, a bonehead and some in-the-ear headphones work fine with a walkman.Chuck
FallingMarc 0 #11 July 7, 2001 I saw the subject header and immediately had an image in my head of freefalling with a guitar strapped to me... wonder how much that would spoil the airflow... Marc
cameramonkey 0 #12 July 7, 2001 well, besides being expensive and not practical above 3000 feet (technical issues) in flight use of cell phones is technically illegal. ;)I was thinking the same thing with two FRS radios and headsets. Seems practical as long as you are within a half mile of each other.Roy
AggieDave 6 #13 July 7, 2001 I'm seriously going to have to try this atleast once! It would atleast give me something to do during the f***ing long ride to altitude...Though others in the plane might think I'm insane if I'm singing along to a song and they can't hear the music...I wonder if I could two-step in an Otter...j/k AggieDave '02-------------Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags!BTHO t.u. PhreeZone 20 #14 July 8, 2001 Oh darn, another law broken.... I decided for mothers day to give my Mom a call at 3500 feet.It was a nice day... Sould I spend it jumping or with her??? JUMPING!! Theres 2 cell towers within 1 mile of the DZ so I got good reception starting about 3300 feet. Last out of the plane and opend a little high. Straped the phone around the wrist, made a quick 1 minute call and hung up. Still had another 1500 feet to go. Whoa... That was cool!
