So anybody seen any good movies lately?

...she asked desperately, bored out of her EVER-LOVIN' GOURD.
I saw Memento (movie about a guy with no short-term memory) the other night -- GREAT FLICK!! Tho I do wonder why he didn't wear a pen on a chain around his neck. Seems like it woulda solved a lot of problems. The premise was gimmicky, but unique. Three and a half stars.
I've read a couple of bad reviews of Tomb Raider. I have a feeling of forboding. I had such high hopes. I'm still going to see it, though...Angelina Jolie, ROWR! I have a non-sexual girl-crush on her. Heh heh.

Also, "non-sexual girl-crush on her" What exactly is that?

I am guessing here, but I would have to say that A) she can certainly see why guys would want to do her and therefore she recognises how beautiful of a woman she is...or B) she recognises how strong of a woman, how independent, how unique, and also how beautiful of a woman A.J. is and therefore has a lot of respect for her, but can't see herself sleeping with her....or C) she is really a closeted lessie and well, doesn't want to break out on the forums and come out as she still isn't out in her real life!!!!!
I go for C...it is more thought provoking and gives me the *warm fuzzies* in that special place!!!:D:D:D

Malachi, you're like the fifth person this month to recommend Wonderboys to me. I'll have to take a gander at it.

Hee hee! It took only three posts for this thread to degenerate into something sexual. Nice.
I ain't gay, but there's lots flexibility in that definition. :)

It's not a movie, but here's a funny for you.
Two Women waiting at the Pearly Gates strike up a conversation.
"How'd you die?" the first woman asks the second.
"I froze to death," says the second.
"That's awful," says the first woman. "How does it feel to freeze to death?"
"It's very uncomfortable at first," says the second woman. "You get the
shakes and you get pains in all your fingers and toes. But eventually, it's
a very calm way to go. You get numb and you kind of drift off, as if you're
sleeping. How about you, how did you die?"
"I had a heart attack," says the first woman. "You see, I KNEW my husband
was cheating on me, so one day I showed up at home unexpectedly. I ran up to
the bedroom, and found him alone, watching TV. I ran down to the basement,
but no one was hiding there, either. I ran up to the second floor, but no
one was hiding there either. I ran as fast as I could to the attic, and just
as I got there, I had a massive heart attack and died."
The second woman shakes her head. "That's so ironic," she says.
"What do you mean?" asks the first woman.
"If you had ONLY stopped to LOOK in the FREEZER, we'd BOTH STILL BE ALIVE!"

And AJ is looking pretty darn good to me as well!!

I got the 'version longue' of The Big Blue on DVD and it is awesome! It is quite an old movie made by Luc Besson (Fifth Element, le femme nikita, Leon). Like all his best movies the soundtrack is by Eric Serra and Jean Reno has a lead role. You see more of Jacques as a boy before his father dies, there is a lot more diving footage and also an entire section of Jacques and Enzo 'working' on an oil-rig as divers - these were all edited from the theatre release. I can't remember when I saw this movie for the first time or how many times I have seen it. It is an awesome movie about free-diving and makes one realize just how crap hollywood skydiving movies are by comparison. Maybe a french director could make a decent skydiving movie (hell, I'd even be willing to live with sub-titles!).

If you've never seen Bound, Office Space, or O Brother Where Art Thou and you have a cynical sense of humor, those movies are great. Fair warning - Bound includes 2 or 3 intense lesbian sex scenes, but is a fun movie even without that subplot.

Rented one the other night called "Almost Famous"... about a teenager who gets to write an article for Rolling Stone Magazine, and he goes on tour with a Rock n Roll band (take place in the '70s)... wasn't great or lousy... just filled up 2 hours of my down time.

Oh Jessica
I am amazed I did not tell. If you or anyone else has not seen a movie called Boondock Saints, SEE IT! It is awesome. It is kinda a cult classic. Hard to find, only Blockbuster has them. I have the DVD, and it is great. The story is about Irish, relegion, and violence. A very unique and kick ass movie.

'Memento' Rocked!! That flick was the shit.
On video check out 'Requiem for a Dream' but be warned, its pretty fucking intense....not exactly a feel-good movie.
If you can handle foriegn films and subtitles(or speak german) try out 'Aguirre, The Wrath of God' by Warner Herzog, pretty amazing flick....
Or you could just get a 12er and play the 'Cutaway' drinking game.......

Also see Pi The Movie, by the same director as Requiem for a dream... also pretty intense... and if you can catch 2001: A Space Odyssey on a huge screen (for 70mm prints) it's amazing... maybe the most perfect movie ever made..

Rent or buy the French movie called 'yamakasi' (produced by Luc Besson)
It's a movie about a couple of rogue boys who run through the streets of Paris like samurai warriors..
They leap off buildings, jump from bridges, bassicly base-jumping without parachutes, and MAN IT'S FREAKIN' COOL!
In terms of martial arts and stunts it's just like the Matrix, but story-wise and the style of filming is much more real (it's not sci-fi, it actualy looks like it 'could' be real)
It vaguely resembles the French movie 'Taxi' in terms of style..
Definately one you need to see (and man do the jumps and stunts in that film get your heart pumping!)
And also a film not many people have seen (due to the fact that is was barely released outside of France)
RENT THIS SUCKER!!!
Here is the mucho coolio trailer (7 MB)

I second that - one of the best action movies I've seen in a while!
