Merrick 0 #1 June 4, 2001 Does anybody have any experience shipping things overseas?? I don't, & I have a few people interested in Pam's old rig that live WAAAY accross the Atlantic. I've called around & the Post Office will do it for about half the price of UPS & FedEX. I know that once something that the Post Office has shipped is out of the USA it's no longer their responsibility, so would that be a bad idea or what? I'm sure that FedEX & UPS are completely global, but is the extra $150 worth it? "Grab the grass, it's the bounce that kills!"Merrick
GeekStreak 0 #2 June 4, 2001 NOOOOOOO!!!! I was secretly hoping you wouldn't sell it for a few months . That rig woulda been perfect for me!I bet the person buying the rig would think the $150 was worth it.1111,GeekStreak
Pammi 0 #3 June 4, 2001 ROFL! Sorry Geek! I feel bad enough having two rigs, not including Merrick's, on the ole' credit card! I just hope she gets a good home! I can't even put on my new rig in front of her I feel so guilty about getting rid of my first 'love'! Shutup! I'm weird, I know! lolSo is it a money issue? I actually had her a few months before I could jump her myself. mouth 0 #4 June 4, 2001 I shipped a main to England and it got ther by US Mail within a week no problem. The postal service can't track it so that is a risk and if it is lost you have 30 days wait before you can file a claim. Also make sure you mark on it returned goods when you mail it so the person picking it up won't have to pay so much in customs.
skybytch 273 #5 June 4, 2001 We ship lots of stuff overseas each week at work. We prefer to use FedEx International for most of it, UPS Int'l if the customer prefers. Usually we only send smaller packages by mail; complete rigs go FedEx. US Mail offers no real tracking service, while FedEx and UPS offer tracking on the web (and FedEx's tracking on the web is really good). Additionally the insurance offered by the Post Office is pretty bad... and for many countries there is a limit to the $ amount of insurance available. If you do decide to go with mail, it's worth paying the extra for the international express mail - it'll get there quicker and likely in better shape than sending it air mail.Shop around for the best shipping rates. An additional $150 to send it via Fedex or UPS instead of mail is crazy... we've shipped complete rigs to Asia for less than $150 total.Be really careful if you mark the package return or repaired or any other way of getting around customs. Fines are massive if a business gets caught doing that, not sure about a private party transaction. Personally I think the added security of worldwide tracking on the web and good insurance, not to mention the faster delivery time, make FedEx or UPS the better choice for shipping a rig outside the US. pull and flare, lisa
GeekStreak 0 #6 June 4, 2001 I know what u mean Pammi. I still have my first set of golf clubs from 1974!! I got a hole in one with 'em... just can't seem to sell 'em. I don't even play anymore, cuz 30 seconds after landing (with an un-elegant Paracgute Landing Flop ) I swore I was giving up golf for jumping. Still got the clubs though.1111,GeekStreak
GeekStreak 0 #7 June 5, 2001 Pammi,I just realized that you had asked me a question... DOH!Money is always an issue, and beleive me, I feel your pain with the credit cards. My X ... oh nevermind. I don't wanna go there ;)I'm not really even ready to think about a rig right now (with just 2 SL jumps). I was just prowling around and saw it there. I had fiddled around with the wingload calculator and your rig fit. I'm 5' 6" on a tall day, so even better. I would have loved having her and taken great care of her.If the deal falls through tho... 1111,GeekStreak
weid14 0 #8 June 5, 2001 I sold a rig to the Guy in the UK, shipped it via FedEx ($125), no problems. Make sure to figure out how to ship it so the recipient doesn't have to pay customs. The guy I sold it to got hammered (didn't really know about the customs part)
