SpeedRacer 1 #1 May 21, 2001 This weekend all the whuffos will be piling into their SUVs to go to the beach and lie like beached pilot whales on the sand or waddle along the boardwalks stuffing their faces with funnel cakes & buying stupid souvenirs.Meanwhile dropzones will be having their big Memorial Day bashes, as skydivers soar through the skies, taking flying leaps out of CASAs & riding in inflatable rafts from 14,000 feet.I am considering going to my own dropzone at West Point Virginia (which will have a CASA this weekend) but I am also debating about whether to go to Crosskeys instead. West Point is a great place, but they are doing 16-way scrambles this weekend, which I, having only 52 jumps, do not feel quite up to doing yet.I had such a great time at Crosskeys last weekend, that I'd like to come back and visit it again, if not this weekend, maybe some othe time soon. So Froggie or Stacy, if you're out there, let me know what's going on there for Memorial day. I still want to try jumping out of that bi-plane! And you know I'm good for beer when I owe it!Speed RacerBrew Skies

skybytch 273 #4 May 21, 2001 Hee Hee!"chunk launching" is a stealthy term for "taking a piece off the plane" - ie a linked exit. Super fun from a tailgate!pull and flare, lisa

My sister is graduating so I have to go visit the family this weekend. Unfortunately there aren't any dropzones near my parents house either. But, I can't wait to get a good homecooked meal. Us college students do get tired of fast food and frozen dinners after awhile.Wesley--I want to fly!

Stacy 0 #9 May 22, 2001 I know that monkey claw would definitely approve of that type of inflatable... they may even do free vid and pay your slot for that one!!!Wingi-Too crazy? hard to not get too crazy esp a jam weekend!!!! Seriously, you haven't lived until you've been to a Monkey Jam. They always feature some sort of infaltable attraction- Sumo, gladiator, bungee... etc etc. Last year was naked bungee run. The weekends get crazier and crazier as the summer progresses. =c)Stacyhttp://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks
SpeedRacer 1 #10 May 23, 2001 Well, I haven't made up my mind about this 3-day weekend yet. What's everyone else doing?? Speed RacerBrew Skies
cdunham 0 #11 May 23, 2001 GD 'relative' work. I'm pissed because as you know, I blew off last weekend to be a 'house bitch'. Plus, I was really looking forward to heading up the the Ranch to demo some Icarus stuff, or hook up with some old friends at Jumptown for my 400th.Dammit. SpeedRacer 1 #12 May 23, 2001 OK what is monkey claw? Are they freeflyers or videographers, or what?I have mixed feelings about the rave thing. I like the partying all night concept, but the electronic dance pseudo-music they usually play at raves is boring after a few "tunes". If I'm going to dance for any extended period I need music I can get into.I would love to jump out of that biplane, though!Speed RacerBrew Skies
PalmettoTiger 1 #13 May 24, 2001 QuoteWell, I haven't made up my mind about this 3-day weekend yet. What's everyone else doing?? Relative work, unfortunately. But it's not all bad b/c I don't have gear yet, so in all likelihood I wouldn't jump anyway.QuoteOK what is monkey claw? A kickass freefly team! Check out their website.QuoteI have mixed feelings about the rave thing. Go, jump the biplane, jump the Otter(s?), buy your beer, drink it, run through the fire, stopdropandroll, rave until you're bored, then find some cutie to spend the rest of the night with!Blues, squares,PTiger
Stacy 0 #14 May 24, 2001 monkey claw knows how to part-ay. saturday night's party is an around the world party. if you pay the registration fee for thier boogie drinks are free. if not i believe you can buy drinks. the party is goign to feature different drinks from all ove the globe, and everyone gets a passport to get stamped, ideally havinga drink from every "country." The bar otuside will be hoppin' as well, with the wheel spinning all night (if froggie has anything to do with it...). RW stuff is happening too with Box and Ponce. =c)Stacyhttp://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks
HotLoad 0 #15 May 24, 2001 Monkey claw is definitely one bad ass freefly team. Never been within 200 miles of them though. Sounds like one awesome party, but I'm w/ Speedracer on the whole techno freak rave music bullshit. I would listen to rap before that irritating excuse for music. Why don't we see how many different kinds of drugs we can ingest then gyrate around around the room, pupils dilated, slinging glow sticks around to some computer-generated noise? Why is it that every "raver" I've run across is a fucking idiot? Not that I'm close minded or anything.
skymama 37 #16 May 24, 2001 QuoteThis weekend all the whuffos will be piling into their SUVs to go to the beach and lie like beached pilot whales on the sand..I guess that's going to be me!!I have to work over the weekend, but was thinking of running out to the dz on Monday, a day off from both jobs. Then, last night, my husband said, "since you don't have to go to work on Monday, let's go to the beach with the kids!" Aw, shit!
SpeedRacer 1 #17 May 29, 2001 Despite everyone's griping about conversations with whuffos, lets admit it:We all get some gloating satisfaction over comparing our "What-did-YOU-do-over-the-weekend?" stories to those of whuffos. So let's hear from people: What did y'all do during the last 3-day weekend? We had a CASA boogie at STP!! On the sunset load we did a high speed exit- 200 mph!!!I did a solo, attempting to track in the direction of the plane--I'd been told that at that velocity, you can actually get some lift! But what actually happened was that when I hopped out, I was in this, er, haze.. And I just whipped backwards like a skipping stone so fast I didn't know what hit me, and my visor flipped up. I slapped it down and looked forward and the plane was nowhere in sight. Pretty cool though!Speed Racer"De plaene!! De plaene!!"
PalmettoTiger 1 #18 May 29, 2001 QuoteSo let's hear from people: What did y'all do during the last 3-day weekend?I disguised myself as a whuffo this weekend. Drove 500 miles to Kentucky, met up with uncles, aunts, and cousins I hadn't seen in a year or two, ate a lot, took a cave tour, drove some go-karts, slept a lot, and drove back home. I'll post the ¿exciting? pictures sometime soon...Blues, squares,PTiger*insert witty sig here*
Stacy 0 #19 May 30, 2001 Memorial Day @ Cross Keys:Friday: organized jumps with Boxman & the Tiki bar of courseSaturday: kinda rainy, but still fun. World premier of the "Average Freefly Video" by Stuey which is 1 hour of INCREDIBLE entertainment. Buffet dinner and free drinks from around the world (saki to red bull and vodka to south african purple shots.....)... then gladiator jousting! The jousting evolved into hand to hand combat between Manifest and Square 3, then BASE jumping from the lockers into the mats. Eddie set himself on fire. Fireworks. Someone ran naked to the peas for a T shirt. you get the idea.Sunday: organizing by Roger Ponce and Boxman. raffle for prizes ranging from yoyos to huge Icarus and Voodoo discounts. Another sweet party night. Monday: more jumping/organized stuff.... started jumping in Tevas and got my new custom helmet, kick ass 7 way with more points than i can count.and then there were some freefliers too....Stacyhttp://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks
