Skydivers' Insurance

Recommended Posts

I am wondering how many people have life insurance on themselves. My wife and I have it, but I don't think that skydiving is covered under it. Also, what kind of rate increases are you looking at when you get that coverage???
Just food for thought and do you think it's worth having?
Thanks for all the input!!!:)MORE SKYDIVING PHOTOS ADDED!!!

Mountainman, I called that Zirich Direct Ins company and they quote me for regular life ins for $100,000 would be $119/year(about $11/month). Throw skydiving into the policy and he said you then ,because it is a hazardous sport(there words) you add $5 to every $1000 you are covered for. SO that will then bring the policy to like $659/year($59/month). BIG increase. Anyway that is how that company works. Hope this kinda answers your ????Also he said that if for some reason I would ever quit jumping to just call them and then the policy would be reduced back to the $119/year. Unfortunatly I havent gotten a policy yet. Just the quote.

Oh yeah I forgot to add that this is for a term policy of 10 years!!

Thanks for the quote man! To me, I think that a regular insurance policy WITHOUT skydiving coverage on it would be good. I don't think I could justify spending that much $$ for something I could only use once (just a joke), but would be paying it all the time.
Hopefully, we won't get too far into debt where my wife would really need it. And, I guess if you have great family, they could always help out if needed.

Speaking of insurance...I haven't heard anything recently as to what happened with the issue of medical insurance companies not having to cover for skydiving-related accidents. I don't know that I'd tell what happened at a hospital or doctor's office if it was something simple, broken leg or such, but if something really bad happened and I was seriously injured, I don't think it'll work saying I tripped stepping off the curb.
I was just curious of they were still working on it or if anyone knew more about it?

Last issue of parachutist had some information in it. Comments where due to HCFA etc., by April, they will review and probably make recommendations soon, then if its not in our favor, everyone will have to write to their congressperson/senator to see if it can be changed.
I did get hurt skydiving and the ER doc just put that I was hurt in a fall. Didn't say what I fell from. Insurance covered it.

Pammi:
It's the darnest thing, (at our DZ we jump from perfectly good airplanes, but) when it comes to getting down off that farm equipment out there in the field, we're almost always falling and breaking something. (At least that's what the EMTs with the rescue squad tell the hospital.)

Same here...it seems grounded skydivers get so bored that they always get themselves into trouble if they aren't jumping...
Often booze related, truth be told ;).
We were thinking of getting a climbing wall at our DZ and then realised that we were bound to kill ourselves on that.......Weird....Hopefully we'll get the jacuzzi that's been under discussion for a while instead :P. ...he heh

I have a policy that I got while I was in the Navy. It doesn't exclude hazardous activities, such as serving in the military or jumping out of planes. :)It's from Academy Life Insurance Company... Don't know if they are still offering that policy, but it couldn't hurt to ask 'em.

Hey Folks.
I have some insurance questions that I'm looking for answers to, and I can't ask my agent. I asked my old agent (after my wife blurted out "What about your skydiving?"), who basically told me I'd be uninsurable due to my hobby. There must be another way.
I'm looking to get some more life insurance but there are all those pesky questions they ask you.
Do you scuba dive? (Yes.) Do you skydive? (Yes.) Have you ever (insert fun sport here)?
If I answer honestly, I've been told that I can't get the insurance. That isn't an option for anyone considering starting a family. What if some whuffo hits me on the highway and kills me? If I "forget" that I do the activities when I am filling out the paperwork and such, what happens? I've heard that after three years of paying premiums, the policy is in full force no matter what your cause of death might be. Including skydiving, even if you didn't put that on the paperwork. True or not true? I know that the insurance coverage would be useless for skydiving-related death during the first three years.
Also, if I somehow neglect to mention the skydiving, and I croak for some other reason, isn't the issue of the skydiving completely irrelevant? The policy would be paid automatically, right?
If there are any skydiving insurance agents (heh!), or skydiving attorneys that can provide some solid info on the topic, it would be great. I know that some of this is state-specific, and I'm in Maryland.
What has everyone else done about life insurance in regards to skydiving? I know the USPA coverage would kick in, but that wouldn't be enough to take care of a mortgage and expenses for a spouse.
I'm certainly not trying to burn in, but shit happens. And if you cut away, there is always the slim chance that shit could happen on your reserve, and you'd just be shit outta luck.
Thanks!
Justin
