JerryBaumchen 1,371 #26 December 18, 2014 Hi Quag, QuoteWhat about nickel plated brass grommets on sliders though? Why don't we do that? Who says we don't? There are some folks that believe that the heavy SS grommets on sliders contribute to hard openings. Just sayin' . . . . Jerry Baumchen
JerryBaumchen 1,371 #27 December 18, 2014 Hi flydog, Quote Stimpson sent me a dozen as a sample batch to "test". Good for you. But, it is something like 'my dog ate my homework,' it will only work for a while. But nice to know, Jerry Baumchen PS) I have found the people at Stimpson to be very friendly whenever I call them. It is that it seems to me that their 'policies' keep changing.
Shredex 0 #28 December 19, 2014 JerryBaumchen No absolute answer. What are you using them in? Practice 2-pin rig I made to hold my spare canopy. I'll use whatever grommets work(spur) that don't rust lol I just don't want to destroy the die set I got on this practice one. Would rather use it(with SS) on the real one I plan to make down the road.
Hellis 0 #29 December 19, 2014 Is that type 8 webbing as MLW and latterals?
jerolim 7 #30 December 19, 2014 Jerry, what grommets (brown) are used on freebags (where safetystow bunge exits) ?
Shredex 0 #31 December 19, 2014 Cheap "Cosmos" webbing I got off Amazon. I use the 1" version of the stuff for straps on my stash bags. I like it because it's silky smooth I believe tougher then the standard backpack strap webbing. It's just not as flexible.
councilman24 37 #32 December 19, 2014 I'm not at home to look but either 0 or 00. Not necessarily brass. Can be any material. Brass not best. The.original paraflite free bags didn't have safety stows. Locking stows were O rings. Safety stows were a retrofit. I think I still have one kit including channel, stow loop, and grommets. Hmm, must have.been.0 because I don't have a 00 set.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
JerryBaumchen 1,371 #33 December 19, 2014 Hi jerolim, Quote grommets (brown) are used on freebags Actually, none that I know of in today's world. For 'brown' look here: http://www.stimpson.com/grommets/grommets-washers-overview/ When you say brown, is this what you mean? Jerry Baumchen
jerolim 7 #34 December 21, 2014 I could swear that I saw brown/brass grommets on Aerodyne Icon's freebag from 2005 or from 2006. I think also Vortex2 uses brass grommets on freebags,..
JerryBaumchen 1,371 #35 December 21, 2014 Hi jerolim, QuoteI could swear that I saw brown/brass grommets on Aerodyne Icon's freebag from 2005 or from 2006. I think also Vortex2 uses brass grommets on freebags,.. I am not saying that they do not use brass grommets. My 'clarification' was only in regards to your 'brown' gommets. I have never known of a grommet being described as brown. Yes, I know that old brass grommets do get dull in appearance and could easily look 'brown.' From what I know, grommets can be: Aluminum - Brass - Brass, nickle plated - Stainless steel Anyone else? Jerry Baumchen
