PLFXpert 0 #1 May 9, 2001 Hey guys,I saw an ad for Handgliding in the back of Parachutist. The ad was for a place in Georgia which is relatively close to me and I was wondering if anyone has gone before and what the costs might be and if it's really worth the money to check out. I've always wanted to try it so I probably will but I'm just curious who has done it before and what their experience was like.Much love and blue skies,Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/

SkyChi 0 #3 May 9, 2001 You can check them out @ www.hanglide.com. They are the best training facility-site around.Mark
MarkM 0 #4 May 9, 2001 Hey PLF, long time no see.Unfortunately I live in the south part of FL, so there are ZERO places near me to handglide(nothing but swamp swamp swamp around here). So just go for me, because that's something I've always wanted to try.
PLFKING 4 #5 May 9, 2001 Hey Carrie --I think the place you're discussing is at Stone Mountain, Ga.But be careful -- I've read two different reports stating that hangliding is statistically more dangerous than skydiving...(did I REALLY just tell a SKYDIVER to be CAREFUL ?!!??! What was I thinking ???)The PLF Magistrateps Just to verify -- you ARE talking about "hangliding", NOT "handgliding", right ? (that would be a completely different experience, and probably exclusive to the men here--after all, we didn't have to buy our equipment !)
Dutchboy 0 #6 May 9, 2001 Carrie,This place is in North Georgia and is a considerable distance from my house NW of Atlanta. This would be one heck of a drive for you from FL.Hanggliding is MUCH more dangerous than skydiving. I have some friends that used to do it, but none that still do. Now they all skydiving instead. PLFXpert 0 #7 May 9, 2001 Okay, correction, the ad says it's called *Hang Gliding*.Ha ha ha. Two words. Sorry. It says it is on Lookout Mountain Flight Park in Rising Fawn, Georgia; about 20 minutes from Chattanooga, TN. From Jacksonville, Florida, I imagine it would still be a drive but I'm down for road trips. I love them. I am definitely interested and am going to call and find out prices, ext. If it is not too expensive, then I'll be planning a trip shortly. Dangerous you say??? Ha ha ha...I laugh at dangerAnyways, I've always wanted to try hang gliding and can't wait to. If any of you have before and would like to share your experience, please do so. I'd love to hear about it. Thanks for your input guys!!!Much love and blue skies,Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/

It is off of I-75 South of Atlanta, and wouldn't be much out of your way. There is another DZ (Atlanta Air Sportz) North of Atlanta off I-75 that you might also stop at. Somebody bought a DZ just West of Chattanooga that they are using for a freefly school as well.

PLFXpert 0 #12 May 10, 2001 Wow, I'm glad you guys seem interested. I called today and left a message for some brochures to be mailed. I'm going to call again tomorrow to try to talk to someone and find out pricing. I will let you know what dates exactly my boyfriend and I will be going. We will probably get a cheap hotel for the night before or something. It would be cool if any of you could come as well.Sangrio, I would LOVE to come to Africa. I wanted to join the Peace Corps and be sent there but decided to go to college first. I still would love to. When I said nothing scares me....I didn't mean people. People DO scare me sometimes. I can't stand to watch some of the brutality that goes on in this world and the lack of compassion or heart. I have always wanted to go to Africa for a million reasons: One would be just to go on a safari and see the wildlife and camp out and rough it. Another would be to go on a mission to help stop the poaching that goes on there. Another would be to help the hungry and lend services and a helping hand for a while. There are so many reasons. Is that where you are living now??? I plan on visiting there at some point in my life. Who knows how soon.
