Hé Mooooose!
Just got back from Texel last night and have been trawling through the 500+ posts on DZ.com - get out there jumping at the weekends people!! You'd think the amount of posts at the weekend would be LESS with everyone out kissing the sky! Apparently not...
Anyway, Texel. You wanna freefly? You got it. You wanna do FS? You got it. You wanna do CREW? You got it. You see a recurring theme here...?
Gear hire is good, with new Javelins being the norm. Not sure what is in 'em though. They have a caravan full time and I think they will be having a Let for the summer. It wasn't there at the weekend, but they are expecting it sometime soooon.
There is plenty of accomodation on the island, but the place to stay is the Kievit - a B&B/Hostel that all the DZ staff and regular jumpers stay in. I stayed there this weekend, just turning up and getting one of the local jumpers I knew to blag me a bed in one of the larger rooms. BRING A SLEEPING BAG - they will give you a duvet type thing if you need it, but I prefer my own. Up to you.
Closer to the day I can give them a call and book one of the smaller, nicer rooms (that don't have 14 snoring sweaty blokes in) for our group.
The views of the islands are SPECTACULAR especially when you get a 5 or so 360 degree views in a SHORT period of time courtesy of Herr Line Over...
The queues of the ferry are quite long, but it's only a 30 minute wait between each one and they run all day long. They just wave you through if you're on a bike though... Bwaa ha ha ha haahahahaha!!

You could also check other DZ's in Holland.
Some of them do jump-ins at texel (They fly there and drop a few skydivers for the weekend, and usualy the plane stays one or 2 days..:)
Which would save you a ferry ticket (but you'd probably have to jump marine style, sleeping bags and a case of beer strapped to your belly:)
Hope you guys have fun....

glad to hear u handled the line over, yeh that would be cool on thursday night screamer wingnut and myself will be pissing it up in amsterdam and my mate who is supposed tobe putting us up is now going to england that weekend what a tit!
know any good places where wingnut can leave his car and where we can crash for the night and go on the bender in the safe knowledge that our gear will be safe etc etc.
as for the bunks it sounds good to me!!!!!!
not sure about the marine dropsmcordia's talking about though. do you have to book the equipment in texel prior to using it or is it better to just get it sorted while i am there???
i'll be up in langaron the 15th / 16th of may through to the 22nd of may so will be able to get current by the time i get up to texel if you arer jumping up there then drop me a line we'll jump together (have only got my cat a though)

'Amsterdam' and 'safe parking' are not realy two things you see in the same sentence often..:(
I think I'd be 'kinda' safe to rent a locker at the station, but leaving your gear in a car in Amsterdam is a definate 'NO NO'
If you are looking for a free place to bunk for one or two nights or a safe place to keep your gear, you're more then welcome at me and my girlfriends place. Only downside is that I live in Rotterdam (which is a 1 to 1,5 hour drive from Amsterdam) but you're more then welcome...

I haven't been to Texel (yet) but a few of my friends have, and as far as I know you can just book everything on the spot (just to be sure you could call one or two days in advance)
The Marine drops thing was a (partial) joke.
A few DZ moved their entire jump to Texel for the past weekends (because most other DZ's are closed because of foot&mouth), and you can fly along to texel in the plane for the price of a normal jumpticket. Basicly I'd be like using A Cessna/Porter or whatever plane instead of the boat (A lot of fun, and cheeper too:)
But since you guys are already in Amsterdam I think the boat would easyest :)

I haven't got my A licence yet, so I can't realy jump on any other DZ then my own (okay, it's possible, but way to much trouble) so I think I need to keep to my home DZ for now...but maybe next year...:)
Anyways...if you need a place to bunk just yell...
Cya,
Jarno
