NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I had finally decided to buy the used Spectre 210 at Square2. Great price, not too many jumps, and the only 210 I've seen out there, much less in the right price range. Everyone - everyone - I talked to said it would be great for my size and experience level. I first saw it 31 hours ago... and when I call it's just been sold!!
Goodbye, cruel world... I shall forsake thee for the comfort of the fetal curl.

SIGH. The problem with trying to buy a kickass canopy used is that no one wants to sell theirs because they still like it! Maybe when those rumors of new ultra-elliptical PD canopies become fact, people will sell their Spectre 210s, preferably in orange and black, but if not I don't mind because I'm not too picky, probably 400 or more jumps and recently re-lined if over 700, and for around $600. I can always hope.

Small commercial here:
The Spectre is a great canopy and I have several friends that jump them. I bought a Hornet brand new for <$900 and it is also a great canopy. I paid less for new than many others do for used. While these two canopies are very different, they both have some of the same qualities: soft opennings, easy packing, etc. As the ads in Parachutist say the Hornets are the best kept secret in skydving, but that is rapidly changing.
In the end you need to buy what you feel comfortable with. I think you owe it to yourself to check out this canopy. I think you are also wise to buy a larger canopy. Part of the reason I bought my Hornet 190 brand new was that there aren't many canopies out there on the used market for 200lb+ novices.

Buy new! Screw those used canopies unless you know who owned them. After three attempts this year to buy a used canopy, I am now only buying new. Everyone lies! either 100 or 400 jumps. 100 really means 400, 400 really means 1000. Save yourself the headache, deal with the problem of packing a new ZP, and buy new.

d00d, I'd love to buy new but I'd have to sell all my worldly posessions and a major organ or two to afford it! Actually, I bet that bass would fetch $150, and the disco ball could get me another $50. AY!! Anybody know where a fella can sell a kidney or two?

Dude, do NOT sell both kidneys! One kidney only, I repeat ONE kidney only!
I made the mistake of selling both, and now every jump costs me two jump tickets and doing RW with my dialysis machine is getting really boring!
Remember : only sell the ONE kidney (I can't stress enough how important this is)

Some people say theirs open too slowly, so maybe you should take packing classes from a BASE jumper or two.
