skreamer 1 #4 April 23, 2001 Quotethis god forsaken oil rig 40 miles off the coast of west africa!Huffer, I seem to remember you saying you get paid pretty well and you work 6 months on and 6 months off - that means you will still have more time for skydiving than any other fun jumper, so just think about getting back to shore with all that money (then buy me some jump tickets). I wouldn't worry too much about learning to pack just yet. You will still be jumping club gear at Langar and you have to have a packing certificate to pack that anyway. Chris does a packing course on Tuesdays (when there is a demand) which will teach you absolutely everything you need to know (plus things like changing mains). /s

Grogs 0 #8 April 23, 2001 QuoteYou aint missing much not flatpacking m8, from what i remember last year it's knackering, bloody fusatrating, hard, and annoying.I'd say it depends on what you're planning to pack. For larger canopies (210+), I think flat packing is probably a bit easier to do, especially for small people who can't reach down far enough down to flake all the line groups. But if you're going to be jumping smaller canopies, especially if they're zero-p and/or elliptical pro-packing is the only way to go.
slotperfect 7 #9 April 24, 2001 Flat packing is a piece-o-cake if the canopy is square. Ellipticals are a different story because of the varying line lengths.I jump a Silhouette 210 (semi-elliptical), which I can pack either way. To P.R.O. pack, I use a hybrid between Billy Weber's "Pack Like A Pro" video and Beezy Shaw's "Psycho Pack," and I love the result. When I pack a tandem canopy or a HUGE student type canopy, I always flat pack it. I am 6'2" and that's too much for even me to keep off the ground to P.R.O. pack.Respectfully,SP
