mountainman 0 #1 April 13, 2001 Ok, I am driving home today from classes...the sun is shining, the music's playing, and the windows are down. I had my hand out of the window playing with the wind when I had a great (at the time) idea!I held the steering wheel with my right hand and stuck my whole head, arm, and chest out of the window! Man, it felt like freefall and the view in the rearview showed my cheeks being flickered. It was great! I think that I may get my goggles in my car so I can drive better (eyes open) when I'm doing that. I guess I'm wondering if anyone else does it? (If not, I highly recommend it, although wear some eye protection because 70 mph hurts a bit.Blue ones..Brandon and Laurahttp://home.woh.rr.com/brandonandlaura/a work in progress

Too bad they dont know its not a freak, its a skydiver!! Im gonna have to try that on my drive home from work, i even think my goggles are in my carBLUE SKIES, COLD BEERchris
Dirtsucks 0 #4 April 13, 2001 Yep, done that. Fun ain't it? Josh
FallnAngel 0 #5 April 13, 2001 Nope, not wierd as far as I'm concerned!! One thing I like to do is flick the car's interior lights on & off and then yell "door!" before opening the window and sticking my head out! Seems to add something to the whole experience...!Blue skies, cool ridesKaren
cdunham 0 #6 April 13, 2001 Yea, not much different than jumping a 170!
FlyBoy182 0 #7 April 13, 2001 Yup I've done that. I also like to get up around 80mph, close the windows, turn off the radio, toss the car into neutral and then open the door just to hear the sound.Blue Ones!
mountainman 0 #8 April 13, 2001 it is definetely good to know that I'm not alone. I think I might try some more stuff like standing up in my Jeep at 80mph (not driving) and getting into belly-to-earth. Do you think if I went down a steep hill, that would be a good simulation? I need to get out more.Brandon and Laurahttp://home.woh.rr.com/brandonandlaura/a work in progress
Craig 0 #9 April 13, 2001 LMAO I have been known to do that occasionally. What's even more funny is when you get the whuffo's in the vehicle with you to do it as well.Craig
VivaHeadDown 0 #10 April 13, 2001 A friend of mine gives me a ride to the DZ from time to time on the back of his bike. I like to put my arms out at 90 degree angles and wear my goggles and helmet to complete the effect. Skydiving is everywhere! Is there any doubt man was meant to freefall??? Hubby has a motorcycle but it's unfortuantely in need of some repairs before we can ride it. Btw, last summer when we first started skydiving we were driving down the freeway towards Sacramento and saw a guy on a motorcycle...we both did a double-take: he had his rig on! Hope his flaps were nice & snug and his pins were seated good! Don't think I'll be trying that anytime soon, even when we do get the bike fixed!Blue skies, cool rides,Karen
mountainman 0 #12 April 13, 2001 Quotesaw a guy on a motorcycle...we both did a double-take: he had his rig on.I heard about some of those crazy drivers out there in Cali. I think he was just prepared for a head-on collision.OH S*IT!! A BUS IN MY LANE!! RESERVE, RESERVE, RESERVE!!!Hey who knows though right? That could get real nasty nevertheless! (trying to erase some mental images of a "premature deployment")Craig
Albatross 0 #14 April 14, 2001 I thought that was how everyone drove? Window open, head out, radio on, life is good. If you ride the bike out to the DZ put the rig under the jacket, what happens if you lay it down the rig might get hurt.Blue Skys and Safe LandingsAlbatross
Viking 0 #15 April 14, 2001 i was thinking about getting a bike but i nether thought about wearing my rig maybe in a gear bag would be a safer way to do it.Remember when Sex was safe and skydiving was Dangerous?
alpenglow 0 #16 April 14, 2001 Actually, my friends and I call it "Poor Man's Skydiving". We put on jumpsuits and everything. The person in the passenger seat of a car holds onto the oh-sh*t handle and keeps one leg in the car. The rest (basically the entire body sans the left leg and hand) hang all the way out of the car. The driver then goes about 100 - 120 MPH. If you do it at night, and use your imagination, it really can feel like freefall. It's fun to keep it up for a few minutes (4 or 5).The goggle idea came after the first time I did it. I actually got used to it, but my eyes burned like crazy. It's fun to do when people aren't expecting it. I've pulled some "Poor Man's Skydiving" on people such as first dates, parents, friends, and friends of friends. The less they know you, the better. In mid-conversation, roll down the window, unbuckle your seatbelt, and just get out. If they slow down, pop your head back in and yell at them to go faster. If you have a ballsy driver, have him/her get close to cars in the lane to the right. If possible, try to make contact with the vehicle. I banged on the wheel well of a semi once, but that's it. I probably could have gotten on the step, and held onto the mirror, but that's just getting a little out of hand.I think I'm going to go do it right now!- Macaulay
Dirtsucks 0 #17 April 14, 2001 Alpenglow, that is truly weird, but sooooooooo cool!! Unfortunately, due to my new found insanity, I’m going to have to try it. Wait a minute, shit, I don’t think I know anybody who has a car that can do 120. Guess I’ll have to make do. Get into position on semi mirror and step, check in, check out, ARCH, ARCH, OUCH!!!Josh
what42 0 #18 April 14, 2001 Quotestep, check in, check out, ARCH, ARCH, OUCH!!! Sounds like a lot of fun until the "Ouch." But, you'll have at least half of a second of a fake freefall. I'm sure it's worth it. Wesley--I want to fly!

venwood 0 #20 April 14, 2001 Everytime I go skydiving I hitch a ride with my friend Albatross. We usually head out to the DZ at about 6 in the morning. So when I drive over to his house on my motorcycle its very dark, there is no traffic and the road is mine. I always ride with my visor up, wind full in my face. Its almost like doing a solo jump. No one around, everything is quiet except for the wind, and the feel of the wind brushing my face. A great way to start a day of sky diving.Just Jump,Venwood
wingnut 0 #21 April 14, 2001 venwood,i know what ya mean! i've made many a ride out to the dz on my motorcycle. do you try and help the bike turn by dipping a shoulder? i sometimes put my feet off the pegs and arch. it's a little crazy but it's fun.....man that's whay i have a motorcycle, it's like freefall, but sideways skimming the ground.<>
freaksister 0 #22 April 17, 2001 Am I the only person who thinks some of these antics sound dangerous??!!!LOL I am referring to the Poor Man's Skydiving, and also trying to touch other vehicles! I am certainly not trying to rain on anyone's parade...I am a much bigger hazard to myself and others when I do crazy shit, like drink and drive...but I just think it would really suck to get major injuries or die trying to climb onto a semi?? Skydiver dies climbing out of car at 120 mph...I must admit that I am surprised some of the jumpers who live here, six hours from the closest dropzone, don't pull stunts like this!! We get really desperate! Whatever you choose to do...have fun I guess!! Dirtsucks 0 #23 April 17, 2001 Quoteit's like freefall, but sidewaysLMAO, never thought of it like that! Never been on a bike, but it kinda reminds me of when I used fly down the trail on my sled (snowmobile, for you southerners), and once you get going fast enough you’d swear you just left the ground and you were flying. Of course, that was until they started the radar traps every 2 miles and took all the fun out of it. Bastards.Josh
wingnut 0 #24 April 17, 2001 radar traps for snow mobiles?man what is this world comming to? i used to love it riding by bike (non-motorized) through town because i could speed when it turned into a 15 mph zone!<>
Dirtsucks 0 #25 April 17, 2001 Yeah, man, tell me about it. I was surprised as shit when this (I think) DNR “cop” or something signaled me to stop. I didn’t know what was going on and then she tells me that she clocked me doin like 70 something (about 20 seconds earlier I was doing a LOT more than that so I guess I’m lucky). I was like “WHAT!?!” “CLOCKED ME! ON A SNOWMOBILE!?!?” You’re right, what IS this world coming to? BTW, that was 3 years ago, the last year I sledded. I need speed, damn it!! Hmmm, maybe I should try that “skydiving” thing Josh
