Iflyme 0 #26 April 17, 2001 Quoteour cat, Zoe, is a base jumperThat's funny! I had a strange cat on my sundeck one evening last summer, and when the cat saw me, it ran, leaped, and flew right off the railing in a perfect arch... ended up about 15 feet below in some bushes, and ran off. Wish I had that one on video... meow!
Dirtsucks 0 #27 April 17, 2001 This is completely off the subject, but this thought just came into my head, and that doesn’t happen too often, so I’m going to share it while it’s there. I just remembered when I was little and lived at my parents old house. I used to love climbing on the railing of the deck which was at least 15-20 feet up and jumping off. I remember trying to “roll” on landing to, sort of, minimize the impact I guess. I have never remembered that until now. Kind of made me think…Josh
SkySlut 0 #28 April 17, 2001 If you want to know more about BASE. Go to www.blincmagazine.com They dont rent BASE gear at Bridge Day. I will be heading down there this year and I am intending on using a buddy's gear. There is no-way that I would jump with my skydiving rig. My rig has a 135 Sabre in it, his BASE gear is a 240 Mojo. I have jumped it a couple of times before off a few bridges and there is no way in hell I would be able to sink my 135 into the landing area at NRGB. If you are going to go I would recommend finding someone who BASEs at your local DZ and speak to them about it. That bridge is immense, but I sure wouldnt want to have a p/c hesitation or a long snivel.-Slut"I'll jump anything!"
Deleted 0 #29 April 17, 2001 I saw the conical(round) canopy posted elsewhere. The H20 its called. Maybe this is dum question but its only 19FT. I thought normal conicals were like 26-28Ft in Diameter. I also thought that you wanted a bigger canopy in BASE. So would this be ok for Bridge Day? Some ones gotta have some answers or opinions on this.
Aviatrr 0 #30 April 17, 2001 Quote Are those towers legal? Can you get all four somewhere without breakin the law? If you are referring to the KL tower in Malaysia, it is legal one day a year....just like the NRGB..Mike
billvon 2,995 #31 April 17, 2001 >I've seen people just almost total skydiving rigs with just mesh slider and 42 in pc. >They even kept the dbag on! I would do that though. You can find old base rigs for around $200>without a canopy. If you can find someone to lend you something big you'd be set and safe. >That was how I did it. i think i would recommend against that. BASE jumping is a lot less forgiving than skydiving, so jumping old gear, or borrowed gear, isn't the best idea - unless you get some practice with it first. that's how i started (really old 7-cell canopy) and i still limp sometimes when i've been on my feet too long from it.if you want to start at something like the NRGB, a large canopy you are familiar with is your best bet. i've been using a regular skydiving rig with a student manta at the NRGB for a few years now - i just added a mesh slider and big PC. the manta is pretty familiar to me (i use one for demos) it glides well, flares well, and can slow you down quite a bit before stalling (important if you're about to hit a tree.) note that it is a nine cell. seven cells are generally preferable, but at the NRGB, it's not as big an issue, since off-heading openings are not as big a deal.-bill von
