Deleted 0 #2 April 14, 2001 Just another round. Although I have thought about buying one to jump for fun.
skybytch 273 #3 April 14, 2001 I've never jumped one but a friend has several hundred jumps on PC's from back in the day. He liked it; stood up the majority of the landings, but says squares are way better.pull and flare, lisa
cloud9 0 #4 April 15, 2001 I have about 70 jumps on a PC. Not a bad canopy we had a lot fun with them in their day. Stand ups maybe 40 percent of the time. Then you had the wind thing 15 mph was a lot of wind over that forget it. And at that you were landing backwards. Spotting was an art. Nothing like the squares of today but hey we were skydiving. Some fun eh!
DBTECH 0 #5 April 15, 2001 I had a 27' Russian PC in the early eighties that I put about 75 jumps on.I cut it away once---a ball of garbage. After I cut away I went into a sit fly position, then fired mychest mounted reserve. I saw the reserve pilot leave followed by a flash/blur of canopy/lines, followed by a mildly brisk opening on my 26' Strong Lo-PO lite.Dave Brownell
Deleted 0 #6 April 15, 2001 Anyone ever see any of these old rigs with the belly reserves for sale? Or have they all been regulated to the bottom of the pile in the DZs jump locker or as wall hangers?
cdunham 0 #7 April 15, 2001 So, one nice thing about rounds is that they are totally quiet. That's about the only nice thing I can think to say about them. They are huge, a pain to pack, unforgiving of a bad spot, hurt like hell on landing (stand up or not). Oh, and ugly.Sounds like what my wife says about me.f'get abat it. miked10270 0 #9 April 15, 2001 Hi there, rounds were good in their day, I jumped Aeroconicals, T-10s, PCs ... Landings were a mater of "Assume the position & wait"... "Front landing to the Right... Feet & knees to the left" or Rear landing to the Right... Feet & knees to the right" Etc...THey got you down to the ground in a fit state to jump again, which was good.... Apart from that, Ram-airs were such a total leap forward, from doing little more than hanging there waiting for the ground to actually flying down that the round was obsolete on the second day of ram-air canopy flight. At that time the PC was the hot canopy of the day & it was thought to be the final evolution of the parachute (lets face it... any more drive vents (holes) in it & it may as well not be there). With the Current range of Ram-air canopies available now, it seems that the ram-air canopy has also reached it's "final stage of evolution". Perhaps the sport is due another "eureka" moment & in 10 years time someone will be posting on "Ram Air jumps" & getting similar feedback!Mike D10270.
