Dirtsucks 0 #1 April 11, 2001 I got a tough one here. Anybody that doesn’t know me, I haven’t jumped in almost two years, and it’s killing me. It’s all about money, and I’ve been desperately saving every little bit I can, just to jump. But I’ve gotten practically nowhere. I don’t have anyone to blame but myself, because my state of being financially fucked is because of my irresponsibility with credit cards. I’ve been doing really good with budgeting, and getting everything paid off and although I’ve come along way, I still got a long way to go till I can even think about actually jumping. But I got something in the mail today. A check for me, from my last maxed out card, if I fill out this check for at least $500 dollars, for anything I want (skydiving, duh!), my credit line will increase by a grand. This won’t buy me the whole AFF package, but it will buy me a few jumps, which, at this point, I am absolutely desperate for. I’m trying to be realistic, I know that by jumping I will be totally screwing my self even more than I already have. I’ve got a lot to think about, trying to keep my head above water, so to speak, but right now, even with all my money problems, all I can think about is just tasting flight for a little bit. I’ve really gotten down to the bare bones of my life in this post – money and jumping. I don’t need anybody feeling sorry for me, I sure as hell don’t, I’m just asking for some unbiased, honest opinions. Should I rip up this check, throw it in the trash, and just be patient for yet another boring summer and excruciatingly long winter, or should I say fuck it all and finally experience what I’ve been dreaming about for so long now. This is such a bitch. Thanks, Josh
Cacophony 0 #2 April 11, 2001 Thats a tough situation. I can understand that you really want to jump, but the way I see it is that you have been working so hard to pay off your debt that you shouldn't ruin it for just a few jumps. You have held out for this long, I'm sure you can wait just a little longer. You're right. The devil did create money. The devil sucks.Safe landings,Alex D-23912
lazerq3 0 #3 April 11, 2001 Well its kind of a double edged sword because if you jump with the money you'll only get a taste and when the money is gone the taste is gone and your in more dept to boot!! and now how long will you have to wait t jump again where if you just keep saving to get through your AFF, youve waited this long , whats another summer(i know easier said then done) but when you finish you'll be able to afford more jumps. I've been saving for a yr and a half and with a wife kid and a house for me its not easy but I'm making it work its finally come but boy I almost f@#cked up and bought a new guitar and amp with my money. Sure glad I didnt because now that its time to jump the wait was well worth it.. Just my opinion though you gotta do what YOU gotta do!!! good luck and hope to see you iin the air soon!!jason
Dirtsucks 0 #4 April 11, 2001 Hee heeee!! Ya play guitar huh? Me too. Well, actually I just make alot of noise. But browsing through all my Musician's Friend catalogs has been mighty tempting. God damn them Les Pauls are purty! But my cheap ass Strat copy will have to do for now. I really want to jump but you're both right, I just gotta be patient. I'll get up there, and then i'm gonna jump my ass off! Thanks a million, Josh
fruce 0 #5 April 11, 2001 Dude, I’m no credit councilor, so this is just my opinion. Based upon what you just stated about your credit situation, I would strongly suggest to you that you take that check and rip it the f*ck up. Look, you deserve the opportunity to jump as soon as possible, however, that check is not the path to get you there. The credit company (bank) that sends those offers out, knows that it will suck in people who are more in need than they would otherwise be. You sign that and you might as well take the last two years of hard work and throw it away ( Am I being too harsh here?…… probably not) There are many alternatives available, and they will all call for some sacrifice. Hey, I’m not trying to burst your bubble, two years is a long freak’n time to spend away from the sky…….. but you have already paid that price, you don’t want to have to pay it back again. peacefrucehttp://www.fruce.com
Dirtsucks 0 #6 April 11, 2001 Hey Fruce, ya don't pull punches do ya? Good, I thank you for that. The replies I have gotten so far have really grabbed me by the hair, pulled, and successfully removed my cranium from my anal cavity. You’re all right, what was I thinking? Shit, when I get money to jump again, I’m going to be instantly broke again after buying all the beers I owe all of you!! It’s all cool, though, I look forward to it!Thanks, Josh
Dirtsucks 0 #7 April 11, 2001 P.S. Just shredded that check, so I guess my point is now moot. Heee Heeee, showed Household Bank how it was, didn’t I? Josh

lazerq3 0 #9 April 11, 2001 Dude I dont know if your a home owner but if you have thoughts of using that 500.00 beware, when you buy a home you get checks and credit card offers for anywhere from $3000 to I think my biggest was $89000.00 . But it sounds like you already did the right move and RIPPED IT UP!!!! jason
Head 0 #10 April 11, 2001 Josh,I hate to be the "me too" gal here but I second everything that everyone else has said. Good job on tearing it up. Fuc* them and don't EVER let them get you like that again!Head
Dirtsucks 0 #11 April 11, 2001 $89,0000!?!? Holy shit!! Might as well just bend over right now with my pants down and stay that way for the rest of my life!! Sorry for being graphic, but I think you get my point! And Kel, believe it or not, I actually did just what you said. Well, right now there’s just a pile of paper on my desk (all soaked in beer), but right after I’m done typing this I’ll put it back together and stick it up! Umn…don’t think I got a frame, but I got some of that 3M poster goo stuff. Guess that’ll have to do! (BTW that stuff DOES NOT come off of your walls, piece of shit! Good bye damage deposit!) And Head, you’re right “fuck all of them!! (ain’t no censorship while I’m around! Freedom rules!) they don’t get it, so why bother? Aww hell, it’s all cool, really. I got kind of excited about actually jumping very soon, and to rip that chance up wasn’t easy, but please don’t get me wrong for one second, I haven’t given up one shred of my determination to make it happen, it’s only a matter of time. And when my time finally comes, I hope you are all ready to jump with my crazy ass!! Damn it, guess I’m done typing now, so now I gotta sort through all this paper on my desk.Blue Skies (and I mean it!) - Josh
Dutchboy 0 #12 April 11, 2001 Dude, I think you are smart not to get sucked back into the credit trap. If you want to jump so bad why not do what some of my friends do who are strapped for cash: pack. I know that packing sucks, but you should easily be able to make enough money packing to pay for 1-2 AFF jumps a week at a busy DZ. At first I'm sure you'll be closer to 1, but you get the point. Once you graduate you can fund your jumps this way too. I know a few people at my DZ make $200-$400 a weekend and still manage to jump about 5 times too. Head 0 #13 April 11, 2001 Hey Josh,Dutchboy is right about the packing thing. Also, now don't think I'm crazy here, but have you ever considered donating plasma? I ask first of all because I am in the medical field and a FIRM believer in donations of all types. And what better way could you make some money for jumps AND help out people that really need it? Just a thought...Head
Zennie 0 #14 April 11, 2001 Credit card companies -- Ted's Soapbox #54. Get this. When I was still lawyering, I would occasionally attend bankruptcy hearings for one of my officemates. No sooner would people walk out the door after being discharged than they would be approached by folks representing credit card companies offering them a brand spanking new credit line.I mean the ink hasn't even dried on the papers yet and these guys are falling over themselves trying to get you back into the situation that got you in bankruptcy court in the first place! And here's the sinister part. They know you can't discharge yourself a second time for at least 7 (?) years. So this time they have you by the short ones.Truly amazing.------------Blue Skies!Zennie
fruce 0 #15 April 11, 2001 Dirtsucks...... Hey, I was only kidding!..... ya didn't actually tear that check up did you?...... Sorry for the reality slap. peacefrucehttp://www.fruce.com
mountainman 0 #16 April 11, 2001 I'll be the "me too" guy here. That was really smart of you to do that. Hopefully, by the time you get to be able to jump, you can just keep living like you are and have all of that extra $$$ for jumping.Just keep thinking about how good it will be to be jumping and knowing that you didn't charge it, but actually bought it with your own money. That will make it that much SWEETER!And you are right, the devil created money. Cuz if God created it, it would grow on trees!!Cielos azules...Brandon and Laurahttp://home.woh.rr.com/brandonandlaura/a work in progress
