flyboy62000 0 #1 April 6, 2001 She will now be a skydiving girlfriend. Well, for one jump at least. I got her a gift certificate for her birthday and it is supposed to be beautiful here this weekend. 75 degrees and sunny on both saturday and sunday. I am scheduling her jump for sunday as it might thunderstorm on saturday. I think I am more excited about it than her. She is a little nervous about making a jump, but I think she will have a blast. I'm so excited about getting on the airplane with her and riding to altitude. I will get out before her as tandems go last, but it will be tons of fun. Well, sorry for the long post about it, but I had to share my excitement about her jump with someone.Blue Skies,Adam
Yooper 0 #2 April 6, 2001 hey, that's great! My girlfriend is also a skydiver. She started about 2 years after me. It's awesome to be in a relationship where you really have something in common. Good Luck.Blue Skies,Yooper
unclbennie 0 #3 April 6, 2001 Adam,Do a solo and exit right before her. I waited two years and finally my hubby and stepson both said they wanted to do a tandem. It was so awesome!! We went to the DZ during the week, it was very laid back, on the plane where my hubbby, his TM, my stepson and his TM, one other tandem and one other fun jumper. It was so cool to look over my shoulder and see my family on the plane!! I grinned all the way to altitude. Then I exited right before my hubby, flipped over on my back and watched him exit, I could see him the whole time in freefall. I didn't get to see my stepson exit cause they where out last. I hurried down under canopy and was able to be there when they landed, it was so much fun. Let us know how she likes her jump!! Karen

Hardcore 0 #6 April 6, 2001 Way to go Adam,Can you go out as an observer on the tandem jump. I know they sometimes allow that depending on the dz regulations. Is she getting video? My boyfriend does video, he's awesome, need him to teach me.My half brother went up in the plane as a spectator and watched us jump out of the cesna. It was so fun to watch his scared but very inquisitive look as we took out different exits. The next day at school he was bragging to all of his friends about it. On my second tandem my friend/tandem instructor jumped with me, my tandem JM and my video guy. It was an awesome skydive. mattb 0 #8 April 6, 2001 Adam,I was thrilled when my girlfriend started AFP. Now if it would only warm up she would finish and we could jump together . . . .-mob
flyboy62000 0 #9 April 6, 2001 I don't know if they will let me go out with a tandem. She is getting video and it would be sweet if they would let me go out with her. I am going to ask and see, but I think they require 200 or so jumps to jump with a tandem. It would be so cool if I could get out with them. Thanks for all the replies.Blue Skies,Adam
Pammi 0 #10 April 6, 2001 That's awesome! Let us know how it goes! I hope she falls in love with it like we all did so you can continue jumping together :)Pammi
Zennie 0 #11 April 6, 2001 QuoteCan you go out as an observer on the tandem jump.My guess is that it depends on how many jumps you have and how familiar/comfortable the TI and camera person would be with you there.I would love to do this when my bro/dad/wife do their first tandems. But I certainly want to hone my swooping/RW skills before I do that. As fun as it may be, I don't want to be a danger to them.Otherwise I'd do what unclbennie did and go out right before them, watch them in freefall and hurry down (or maybe pull high with them & see if I can't fly over to where they can see me -- with permission of course).------------Blue Skies!Zennie
Grogs 0 #12 April 6, 2001 Definitely do the Uncle Bennie idea rather than actuall jump WITH the tandem. I highly doubt that they'd let you go, but I think it's a bad idea anyway unless you're very certain of your flying abilities. Personally, I wouldn't want to fly with a tandem. I don't really think I'd mess it up, but there's always that slight possibility, and if you were to accidentally get tangled with the drogue or something it could be real trouble. Tee 0 #13 April 6, 2001 That is excellent news! Just think, if you can get her hooked, all your holidays from this point forward can be skydiving ones and you will have someone that will NEVER get tired of you stories! There is nothing like having someone that can share your passion with.Tee
PLFXpert 0 #14 April 6, 2001 Awesome! Right on! Skydiving is how I met my boyfriend. I went through my AFF and didn't know many people since I came during the week when there were no fun jumpers so 3 months later (I only did 2 levels a month due to money) I started jumping on the weekends and met my boyfriend my first weekend off student status. He's never had a skydiving girlfriend before. Maybe it's that, or maybe it was something else but I don't think it's coincidence that we want to be together forever nowMuch love and blue skies,Carrie http://www.geocities.com/skydivegrl20/
Zennie 0 #15 April 6, 2001 Weird as this sounds, I'm not sure I'd want my wife taking it up full time (tandem's OK). Not because I wouldn't like jumping with her... I would immensely. I just know she can be kind of the panicky type at times and I'd really worry about how she'd deal with a mal situation. I don't think I could bear the idea of seeing my wife go in because she panicked dealing with a mal. Of course, she's surprised me before, but still...------------Blue Skies!Zennie
Grogs 0 #16 April 6, 2001 I saw this the other day on skydivenet.com. I hope this isn't too depressing for this thread, but it really opened my eyes to the dangers of shadowing a tandem. Unless I'm flying camera some day in the distant future or I feel VERY confident about my flying abilities I don't plan to jump with a tandem.Description: An experienced jumper gave his mother a tandem for Christmas. He filmed it. At pull time he found himself "next to the drogue". He hit the deploying main and became wrapped in it. He worked his way out of the mess but snagged a line with his foot. As he fell clear, the line broke and he hit the Tandem pair. He continued in freefall and deployed his main. He landed safely. The tandem master and possibly thepassenger were knocked out. The tandem slowly spun into the ground. The Tandem Master is alive and in the hospital. The passenger (mother) was killed.
MC208B 0 #17 April 6, 2001 I bought my girlfriend a tandem jump last year. It was great! I exited right before her, watched them freefall and landed before them. A day to remember :)

flyboy62000 0 #19 April 9, 2001 Hey Guys,Well, I had a great day yesterday. My sweetie and I got up early and drove to the DZ with the temperatures maxing out in the lower 80's and beautiful blue skies. It was pretty windy, but I was confident in my abilities and everyone else was jumping so I got on a load and did some transitions. Then she checked in to do her tandem and signed all the waivers and got ready to go.On the ride up she was really, really scared/nervous. I was sitting in front of her and she was just clutching onto me. I ended up going out on a two-way right before the tandems. I came down and landed, and when she came down she was just kind of hanging in the harness. They landed and she could hardly stand she had so much adrenaline in her. Right after the jump she said it was the scariest thing she had ever done and she needed to lay down. We went and ate some lunch and watched the video. Her video is one of the best tandem videos I have seen. It is really good. After she watched it and had a chance to relax she said it was really cool and exciting. She was so cute. She may jump again, but I don't think it will be for a while. She really enjoyed it and had a great time. I made a couple more jumps and then we went home. What a great day.Blue Skies,Adam
