skreamer 1 #1 March 21, 2001 OK, not being able to jump because it is winter is rather crap. What I want to know is how did those of you who have been grounded because of injuries, sickness, pregnancy etc. cope?I can just imagine how horrible a Saturday with beautiful blue skies would then be. Please share your pain. (an expression I recently heard : pain shared is pain halved )/s[drop till you party!]
cyberskydive 0 #2 March 21, 2001 I dont think you ever "cope"-LOL you just beat the crap out of yourself everyday untill you get to jump. Eventually you will quit your job and move in to the dz in hopes that you will not miss another second of being able to jump. Feel better?D.Chisolm C-28534webmaster@sunraydesigns.comhttp://www.sunraydesigns.com
froggie 0 #3 March 21, 2001 skreamer, its not the same but i still suffered :( Picture this if you will. Feburary I had about 300 or so dollars saved for AFF. Well, if you remember, feb. was also the month that we had freezefest at the dz. Poor froggie went out to freezefest and couldnt jump even though she had the loot for a 'quickie' (read: tandem) she was saving for the whole picture. Poor me. I just wanted to whip that 185 out and jump. But i didnt, I couldnt. another 200 dollars would have broken me :) lol okay, i shared. now someone elses turn
tigra 0 #4 March 21, 2001 I broke my ankle in July of 98, and was grounded for the rest of the summer, and a beautiful long indian summer and fall. Jumpable all through November, which does not always happen in Chicago. My boyfriend was dragging me to the dz every weekend anyway. It was really difficult and my liver suffered the consequences. (meaning I sat around and drank while my friends jumped...) One of my friends (girlfriend of another jumper,) was really bummed when I got better, because she had no one to party with anymore!I had promised my doctor and my physical therapist that I would wait until spring, but I finally broke down and made a jump in early december, which made coming back in the spring that much easier! As a rule, I get through the winters fine without jumping because there is so much other stuff to keep me busy that I don't get to do the rest of the year. But the first signs of warm air and sunshine get me itching to jump all over again!
Jeji 0 #5 March 21, 2001 I had to stop for 4 years right after getting started. I just found things to do, when I wasn't busy enough with the kids, that were so mind occupying that I "almost" din't think about it. Got very interested in astronomy and decided to open a business and bring the kids with me. I probally should have waited another year or so before starting again, but it got the better of me!! Stacy 0 #6 March 21, 2001 I get irritated when i have a sinus cold and can't jump. at least i can still work in manifest though an dbe around the sport when i'm sick. i had to take a day off last december after a less than optimal off dz landing, hurt my back, but other than that i think i'm lucky. =c)Stacyhttp://astro.temple.edu/~sweeks
zelda 0 #7 March 21, 2001 I've been grounded since November because of a shoulder injury...it generally sucked, but the past 2 weeks or so have been pure torture because we're actually having a lot of spring weather (this time of year in Portland is usually rain, rain, and more rain, followed by rain). To top it off this week at work has been bad and only promises to get a lot worse...a jump would make me a much more pleasant human being to be around...but, no love for me yet...In answer to your question, there is no answer to your question...lots of daydreaming and dirt diving, I guess.-zelda
Iflyme 0 #8 March 21, 2001 I haven't jumped for a week and a half, and it's killin' me!Frank
ColdDuck 0 #9 March 21, 2001 I know exactly what you mean Picture this I live 5 minutes from my DZ. Which you might think is pretty convenient. However for the last 4 weeks or so people have been jumping. If that isn't bad enough when the plane takes off it flies directly over my house. I 've gotten so good I can tell whether or not its the King Air taking off before I can see anything. This justs pisses me offSo sometimes I 'll make an excuse to drive by DZ on the weekend just to see whats going on. I always end up giving someone a ride who landed out in the boonies. Which I don't mind it just makes me more enviousOh don't worry it gets worse the store I work at is about 200 yards away from the DZ. So from time to time while I'm carrying some dipshits crap out to their car I look up and see people jumping. About this time the customer who had to park like two miles away notices the jumpers and aks me if I could ever jump out of a airplane. I was so pissed I just mumbled NO!Anyway the 3 feet of snow is starting to melt here finally.
lazerq3 0 #10 March 22, 2001 I've been grounded for 2 weeks now because I'm waiting for someone to sighn up for AFF ground school. THey dont want to teach just one they want at least 2 students DOWH!!!. I can understand why I guess but it suxs cause I've been going out to the DZ anyway just to watch and its been nothing but blue skys. Also because they just opened theres not alot of people jumping yet so your # of jumps depends on how fast you can pack.jason
skybytch 273 #11 March 22, 2001 I am NOT coping!! I haven't jumped since October and probably won't be jumping til July and the weather just turned springlike here and the Otters from Perris were climbing in formation over my house all weekend and... sigh."One day at a time" as the 12 steppers say. My name is lisa, I am an addict...pull and flare, lisa
Albatross 0 #12 March 22, 2001 I am totally going nuts right now. I have made a total of two jumps in like 8 weeks. Everytime that I had a free weekend it rained or was supposed to rain. Now the sun is out and the living is good. 8 days and counting until jumps and a new rig. YEAHBlue Skys and Safe LandingsAlbatross
FreeflyPlaymate 0 #13 March 22, 2001 Stacy I can totally relate with that sinus cold thing. One day I was over at Perris and I made first load...yahooo one of my fav's lol anyways I wasn't feeling too great so I didn't make another jump for awhile...awhile turned into waiting the whole day....so I manifested for one of the last loads hoping that I would be better by then, but I only got worse, that was the one and only load I've had to be asked off of....one of the worst feelings ever...made that sinus cold feel so much worse...**BLUE ONES**BITE ME.... :P
