landmissle 2 #26 March 18, 2001 In my current job at LLNL, I'm a system administrator for about 100 Windows NT workstations, 10 Windows NT servers, and (here's the cool part....) 20 Linux workstations. That's not geeky enough for ya'? O.k. try this on for size. I have a Duke Nukem action figure in my office, a 12" stuffed penquin on my monitor and a "Bill Gatus of Borg" poster on my office door. On the home front.....I built my computer from scratch and it's current condition is that the front and side panels have been removed: to easily allow me to tweak it's internals. I've overclocked the CPU and keep it cool (the CPU) with a heat sink the size of a waffle iron and enough fans to create my own wind tunnel. This, by the way is how I initially got into skydiving .Oops, hey gotta go, the tape on my glasses came undone and I can hardly see my typing.Feet up, heads down, blue skies,Landmissle

skreamer 1 #28 March 18, 2001 HA HAI am always too lazy to put the side panel back on as well, because I just reckon before too long i will want to change/tweak something anyway (bad as far as cooling is concerned tho'). Most fun I had was a previous box I built - abit motherboard, dual processing with 2 celerons. Cheaper than buying a PIII at the time and pretty quick (had to run NT tho - multiprocessing blah blah). Thing was, you could fry an egg on it it got so hot. I've installed Mandrake on my 2nd box recently (box is called Joan of Arc for obvious reasons) - so far I much prefer it to Red hat (esp. the install).Boy, this is waaaay more exciting to post about than all that boring skydiving stuff... /s

FreeflyPlaymate 0 #34 March 18, 2001 I definitely think that skydivers are geeks...if they weren't I don't think I would be so excited to spend time on the ground with other jumpers. And I do want to say that I do commend all of the chicks...I've never been around so many other rad chicks who aren't all self-concious and have to talk smack and knock other girls down. I also snowboard and I can not tell you how many chicks are like just way rude, it's like get over yourself..lol So to all of the ladies out there who jump...more power to ya! It's nice to see we are actually working together! Oh and one more thing...about the lunch money getting stolen? I must have REALLY been the queen GEEK, my mom packed mine, lol I never bought a lunch like the cool kids....and my "fruit snack" was an apple, so I think I am the big WINNER!!!! I'm not a loser anymore damn it!!!!!

I work as a LAN Technician (although I haven't seen much of that disposable income...). I've built all my own computers for the last 5 years, although I probably won't be getting a new one anytime soon... I could get a new main for the price of a new system. And there are probably a few dragon dice laying around my bedroom at home (although the only RPG I've played in a long time is Shadowrun and all you need for that is 6-sided dice).
