Music Preference

I was just wondering what other skydivers like to listen to. I personally am into rock. I know that’s pretty vague, but I’m pretty vague myself. If you can get inside my head please tell me what you see, I’d love to know what’s in there! But really, I love a lot of newer stuff, Linkin Park, Korn, Manson, and that kind of stuff, and also a lot of 80’s (hair band) stuff. Def Leppard is still right next to God as far as I’m concerned. I should mention that the song I always associate with skydiving is She’s so High by Tal Bachman (probably didn’t spell that right) because I heard it a million times while waiting to do AFF in Baldwin, MN (seemed an appropriatate song watching a cute girl under canopy). So what is everybody else into?

OK, I'll play,
Roxy Music from the 70's-80's (then again, they are connected to my "claim to fame). I've got FREE tickets to their reunion concert in Newcastle this summer (YES!!).
Nena Kerner from the 80's-90's WHAT A VOICE! (at least when she's singing in German), & I have an everlasting image of when she walked on stage for a concert.... Man, all she did was walk across the stage wearing jeans & a 'T' shirt & I'd guarantee that every male in the audience had the same physical reaction (every female thought "Tart" & then probably hit the man they were with on the jaw causing 'said men to bite their tongues)!
Early Pink Floyd ("The Wall" was the biggest sell-out in the history of Rock)!!
Ragtime Jazz - Satchmo & Ella.
Wagner - when I'm contemplating plans to re-integrate the former colonies:S:D!!!!!!!!!

I like a lot of stuff. My favorite band right now is The Magnetic Fields (any other fans) but I dig all sorts of stuff. I'm really getting into blues, but I'm a clueless newbie in that area.
If anyone wants a good overview of what I really dig ('cause you're all dying to know more about that enigmatic doasfu chap) or you just want to hear some really damn good music, check out the real audio feed at WYCE Radio, where I used to work a few years ago. This is a great community radio station out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is one of the few places left in the world where the on-air DJs actually pick the music they play. Their format is really eclectic folk, blues, jazz, rock and world music.
Come to think of it, maybe I should get a show there again. It was a blast.
Dan

Please digress Mike.
My favourite band is U2 - I was lucky enough to meet and have a pint with the Edge in a club in Dublin in 96 (Mean Fiddler, Howie B was guest DJ). He was already my favourite musician and he turned out to be a REALLY nice guy. (that's my claim to fame - apart from being a skydiver of course).
Another good band is JJ72 - very good young Irish band (just released their debut album).
Favourite song : Scar Tissue (chili peppers) - it is the track on one of my AFF videos, instant flashbacks whenever I hear it now.

I'll listen to just about anything that isn't hillbilly, disco or pre-packaged boy/girl band crap. Most of the music I listen to is kinda dark & moody.
I've lately been on a huge Offspring kick -- particularly Americana (see you in Walla-Walla!). I also listen to a lot of Powerman 5000, KoRn, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Pixies, Metallica (up to the Black Album), Megadeth, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath.
I also like classical, primarily Mozart & Bach.
Re: Def Leppard & 80s stuff. Def were good up through Pyromania. The rest of their stuff was power ballad stuff. Ugh. I grew up on a lot of this. Motley Crue, Iron Maiden (they were the real deal), ACDC (especially the old Bon Scott stuff), Judas Priest. Cinderlla was about as glam as I got. Yeah they were a bunch of pretty boys, but their music actually rocked. Crue started kinda glam and then turned away from the Dark Side. ;)

Blue Skies!

Classic Rock, as I was born in 1961, but I enjoy Jazz (and not that "smooth" jazz shit), Classical after a tough day at work... and of course playing my acoustic guitar. BTW, Tal Bachman's Dad, Randy, was in the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive. He ROCKS!!!

zenni,
ive got a band that you might like. you can download their music for free on MP3.com. the bands name is zymotic flow. dark, moody, highly emotional. a great band to listen to as you sit around drinking a few beers. Plus, (sheeplish plug) my cousins in that band and I listen to his music a lot. My favorite nights out are when i go to the bar to listen to them play. great stuff. Makes me feel what my cousin has felt when I hear the lyrics to a song that he wrote.. Im big on the family thing but my tolerance for shitty music isnt. so thats how i know that thiers is good.

Music preference... I'll listen to just about anything except rap, country, or gospel. Have a hard time pinning down any real favorites, but I am somewhat partial to Jimmy Buffett, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Grateful Dead, Jethro Tull, Billy Joel and Fleetwood Mac. Like alot of the new stuff I hear, but I never seem to figure out who it is??
