need ur opinion on THE RANCH

Recommended Posts

hey all. was talking to lex (thats what he goes by here) earlier and he wants to do AFF at Skydive the ranch. seeing how ive never been there, I figured turning to you guys would give great insight. his email is ptluther@hotmail.com, his AIM name is lutherp109. What lex is looking for is some insight and some info about the ranch. I know that weve got a few Ranchers here, maybe you guys could help. In any case, lex is working right now, and hasnt time to post. Figured id help him out and try and catch you guys before you head out for the weekend. Lex will be checking this thread sometime this weekend, so if ya can help, either post back or email him. Lex says thanks ahead of time for any help.

The Ranch is awesome. I jump there regularly... sorry, Froggie, CK is just too damn far! Their IAF program is pretty good. I think they'll have more instructors than ever this summer, as well as lots more student rigs. They always have a ton of planes and the days usually end on load 30 something. I don't think you could ask for more in looking for someplace to learn.
Once you graduate, the $15 jump tickets don't hurt either.
Hope you come visit!

I have to say that the Ranch is a great place to jump, and a great place to learn. I started jumping in August of last year, graduated, and get my license there. Helpful, knowledgeable instructors, good planes, good times after the days jumping.

Thanks for your help, and thanks again froggie for posting for me! It's good to hear from someone who went through the program there and was very happy with it. All I"m looking for is a fun place to learn with some very helpful, patient instructors. Sounds like this place fit! And btw, how far is the Ranch from NYC? Got an idea Squirts or Trent? Also, since I'm so new to this stuff, can you comment at all on currency and refresher course policies there? Thnx!

I live here in Gardiner with the Ranch, and in over 20 years of skydiving, would have to say it is one of the most special drop zones around. Good staff, beautiful countryside, great airplanes and only an hour to an hour and a half from NYC, depending on your velocity. Our weather can keep you on your toes, but it's a great experience. Thanks!! PLF

Can't comment on refresher or recurrency, I've been jumping in the cold :S
As for distance it is about 1.5 hours from the city, I live in NJ just on the other side of the Lincoln tunnel and get there from home in about the same 1.5 hours. Different routes. There is also a bus station in New Paltz (which is about 15 mins away) and getting rides to/from there usually isn't much of a problem once you get to know folks.
