rapaz 0 #1 August 28, 2015 Hello this is a tech question, special for the ones who has experince manufacturing rounds. I have a consew 332 double needle needle feed, with NO puller on the back, Im planing to build a round 22 panels, 28 foot, block construction, the thing is : the puller will be mandatory to do a nice work, its for both bias and block type or I can handle it with skills Tanks a lot
JerryBaumchen 1,436 #2 August 28, 2015 Hi rapaz, Quote or I can handle it with skills It just depends upon those skills. Many years ago, I built a square canopy using only a single needle machine, no puller or anything else. I just held things together with my hands and stitched away. The use of a puller makes things more consistent; but they were developed to make things go faster. Jerry Baumchen
riggerrob 643 #3 August 28, 2015 The key is maintains consistent tension with your hands. The challenge is to maintain consistent tension day in and day out, every day of the week, through varying machine speeds, etc. Pullers are not mandatory, they just make the process more consistent, especially if you have more than one person sewing the canopy. Similar to Jerry, I sewed a couple of kit parachutes (ram-air) with a single-needle sewing machine and they flew straight for hundreds of jumps. RiggerLee 61 #4 August 28, 2015 A round is totally doable with out a puller. The tolerances are not nearly as tight as a square. It's like a factor of ten between the two. On block, even the gore edges are not that great of an angle. If you're hot cutting them the stretch is even less. A puller is a god send but mainly because it makes the sewing easier. you can have both of your hands in the front which lets you sew much faster and their is a lot of seam in a 28. I would tell you that it's worth looking around for a 112-w-116 just to speed it up.
