Electronics Student needs help

Recommended Posts

Hiya, If you could please take the time to read this I would be very grateful.

I am about to go into my final year of my electronics degree, and part of my degree requires me to do a project.

The project lasts 6 months, and I was thinking of developing a system that could help blind/partially sighted skydivers under canopy.

This is a very rough idea at the moment and I’m not even sure if/how it would work, but at the moment it would consist of various transmitters which would monitor the height and placing of the canopy and have a built-in landing pattern, via a radio link these instructions for the pattern could be given to the pilot (these might be verbal instructions or beeps).

Any other ideas or suggestions would be very helpful, I don’t need to start the project until January so I have plenty of time.

If you would like to know more feel free to PM me.

Thanks again

Nelly

Ever thought of integrating a GPS unit with target center landmarked? Of course you'd need to use the kind of sonic sensors on the back of SUV's for the flare and landing aspect. Just a thought or two.
Your project is a very admirable one. Good luck and God's speed.
God bless and blue skies,

Rudd-man

As a gadget lover, I have played with various gadgets including GPS. If anyone decides to use GPS, please remember they are not 100% reliable. If you do decide GPS, research as much as you can (including www.gpspassion.com etc.) for the most reliable electronics, and plan for failsafe backups including the old radio method.

Of course, I'm a student. Just adding advice from a "plain GPS user perspective".
