Liberty is the idea that you are judged not by who you are, but by what you do. You are advocating the reduction of liberty, just in case, because of profiles and stereotypes.
---------------------------------------------
There is already a reduction in liberty or have you not traveled in the last 2 years. The fact is that it does not have to necessarily affect everybody. There is one John Walker Lynn and what is every single other person we have encountered since 9/11 planning terrorist attacks on the U.S.
================================
I'll bet most arab terrorists have black hair. Should we have surveilance of people with black hair?
--------------------
why stop there I think all terrorists have 2 eyes and a nose. Sounds like pretty useless information doesn't. That is typical liberal spin to try to avoid and actual solution to a real problem.
====================================
Do you know what percentage of American muslims are arabs? 25%.
---------------------
I doubt that I would ask you to site the source. Incase you don't know I have had many Muslim freinds and I know for a fact the Koran is not translated or very frowned upon. See they believe that the language of Arabic even revolves around the religion.

Whereas with the Soviet Union if we could take Moscow everything else would be easier after that.

Man I am so glad the US NEVER made that stupidity a reality.

Napolean tried it. Hitler tried it It seems for once someone didnt try it.

However it never happpened and for that matter it never even started to happen.

I remember the duck and cover exercises in grade school. I remember the hysteria of neighbors building shelters...that was REAL fear that we all felt for a few days in Oct in 1962.. not a TV dramatization.
I remember the Strategic Air Command alert that went up as the DEFCON dropped during the Yom Kippur war in 1973. I was ON a SAC base at the time...when we came very close to a real nuclear war over the Middle East. We were going to take shelter in the basement of the chow hall and come out 2 weeks after the RAD levels had dropped to survivable levels to load MORE thermonuclear devices onto MORE B-52's that were not destroyed by the VERY heaviest of very large megaton devices since the Soviets did not have accurate weapons they made them large to obliterate things for miles and miles. Those were real. Those STARTED to happen. By pissing off the world we will eventually stand alone. Maybe then we will nto be so fortunate in avoiding the nuclear war.

Crusades, eh? The last time I looked the Kingdom of Acre fell in 1291 or so and the follow-on 'crusades' were directed not at the recapture of Outremer/Jerusalem but at curbing the advances of the Ottomans. 2003-1291=712 years since your example was relevant.

What are you trying to say, Bill?

Oh, definitely. The term crusades was coined around 1300; the term jihad was coined by Muslim theologians around 800. Both are ancient.

Some lunatics interpret jihad to mean they should fly airplanes into skyscrapers. Other lunatics interpret crusade to mean they should do god's work and blow up abortion clinics and kill doctors. From an article about Paul Hill, a convicted murderer who was recently executed:

--------------------
Hill himself welcomed the state killing, clearly hoping that it would make him a martyr among fellow anti-abortion militants. His supporters have vowed to carry on his crusade, openly threatening to escalate violence against abortion providers. In his final interview with the press before his execution, Hill called on his followers to continue his work, “I believe in the short and long term, more and more people will act on the principles for which I stand.”
-------------------

There are plenty of other examples. Shelly Shannon - god told her to commit arson and murder to stop "baby killers." Eric Rudolph, who bombed gay bars, abortion clinics and the Olympics. Since 1989 there have been 17 hate killings of doctors by these 'crusaders.'

There are dozens of members of the army of god, the most radical pro-life group out there (and the one that advocates arson and murder.) Their favorite two biblical quotes are "... I have set before you life and death ... therefore choose life that both you and your seed may live." and "The law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners... for manslayers."

All that does not mean that all christians are at risk to become doctor-killers because some have gone on a crusade, any more than the term jihad means that muslims are at risk to become terrorists.

I see your allusion, but comparing any of these abortion-doctor-killing buffoons to Peter the Hermit, the Bishop of Le Puy, Bohemond, Jocelyn, or King Richard is stretching it a bit. Comparing any of the abortion doctors with Saladin would be pushing it as well.

Now if you compared the stupidity of the Children's Crusade with those who claim late term abortions aren't murder, I think you'd be onto something. Totally different subject.

Pick a race or religion, and we can probably find an example of them killing people because they disagree or are different.

This I agree with, however you cannot link these actions with the religion or the race. These actions are disobedience. Speaking as a Catholic, if I was to do any of this, I would be violating the TRUE teachings of the Catholic Church. People do a lot of heinous things in the name of their religion or race, it does not mean they are in obedience to their religion or race.

Pope Gregory IX instituted the papal inquisition in 1231

Pope Urban II was responsible for assisting Emperor Alexus I (1081-1118) of Constantinople in launching the first crusade

third crusade, Pope Gregory VIII 1188

The papacy gained the most from the Crusades. Its authority was greatly increased. The power of European kings also increased in that a number of barons who had given them trouble went to the East.

Ya see, you have to seperate what a human does and what the True teachings are. For example, the recent scandal involving priests. As we all know many, many priests molested young boys and many of the hierarchy covered it up and moved the offending priests from parish to parish, allowing them to continue. Now, just because they are priests or bishops does not mean what they did was the teaching of the church. The true teachings of the catholic church condemns all of the above mentioned actions. Basically my point is to seperate the actions of a human no matter who they are with the true teachings of the Catholic Church.

Good point. The Koran actually forbids acts of terror, i.e. the killing of innocent civilians. It is also worth noting that there are many muslim religions, with the main split being between Suni (spelling?) and Shia and lots of smaller fractions. These are as different as the Christian churches: Protestants, Catholics, Orthodox, etc. etc. etc.
It is a pity that a lot of people have a very simplified view of very complicated issues. Unfortunately one of these is GWB.

I agree with you to a point. I understand that the teachings of the church are different. However, there is such a thing as actions speaking louder than words. The organized part of the church, the leadership of the organization acted differently from their teachings. There comes a part where saying one thing and acting the other way is not defensible anymore.

Yes, there is already a reduction in liberty. That's my problem. A friend of mine was detained by the police and had his camera confiscated because he was taking pictures of Liberty Hall and the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Well, the problem is, there hasn't been anyone tried in court for planning terrorist attacks. Who knows if they really were? Because some FBI agent (I'm sure they never make a mistake) says so?

It's just about as useful as targeting all muslims. That's the point that you don't get.

Do your muslim "friends" know that you want them to be kept under constant surveilance?

Oh, and as to the source for my statistics...I got them from the US State Department.

http://usinfo.state.gov/products/pubs/muslimlife/demograp.htm

And I'll ask again. Provide one source for ANY of the supposed facts that you've been spouting.
