I heard about it on the radio. Professional sports could use a few more guys like him. A friend of mine just got home a couple of weeks ago and there is talk of sending him back. Prayers to all our brave soldiers...

My brother serves with this guy's unit and is over there right now. Shoot him and his fellow RANGERS a few vibes/prayers right now if you get the chance - they could use them, I'm sure.

This is so sad. Lance Peter Sijan was a USAFA grad, and an F-4 pilot. He could easily have been an All-American, but went to Vietnam...

Please don't be upset, but I have posted this poem several times before the Iraq War...

"Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car and I dented it?
I thought you'd kill me. but you didn't.

And remember the time I dragged you to the beach, and you said it would rain, and it did?
I thought you'd say, “I told you so.”. but you didn't.

Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you jealous, and you were?
I thought you'd leave me. but you didn't.

Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie all over your car rug?
I thought you'd hit me. but you didn't.

And remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal and you showed up in jeans?
I thought you'd drop me. but you didn't.

Yes, there were lots of things you didn't do.
But you put up with me, and you loved me, and you protected me.
There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you when you returned from Viet Nam....

...but you didn't."

At least these will be remembered.

I think we all should not look at this as an athlete that was killed. He made the decision to walk away from the money for something that he believed and I think that shows huge character.

One thing that I kept comming into my head is that the other soldiers that have been killed are heros just like Pat Tillman as well even though they are not getting the press. They gave their lives just as this one has but may not have been "famous"... They all had different reasons for being in the military, and they all had made sacrafices to be there.. Yes Pat Tillmans sacrafice was a little more know given the popularity of sports and the money invloved but I personaly dont think the other soldiers that have lost their lives are getting the respect that they diserve.

Hopefully the fall out of this soldiers death will be more of an understanding for all of the soldiers that have been hurt or killed and not a focused look at one individual.....

If you all don't know the story of Lance Sijan, try to get your hands on a copy of the book "Into the Mouth of the Cat" by Malcom McConnell.

At the AFA, Lance Sijan is nearly worshipped, and rightly so. When you learn his story, you'll see why.

Thanks for bringing him up, Mark.
