U.S. fired on Iraqi wedding?

My question is why isn't FOX news channel out there bringing us the positive stories? Why isn't this unabashedly pro-Bush network carrying the real "fair & balanced" stories of our success in Iraq instead of just bitching about the negativity of the "mainstream media coverage?" The same applies to Rush, Shawn, the dozens of other talk-radio clones, Republican leaning publications, etc, etc.

Every single organization in your list is a media outlet - a company. Hearing about new schools, hospitals, infrastructure, etc... doesn't sell. Remember, every one of those organizations has a bottom line that must be met. Every one of those organizations is a for-profit business.

Although that has been the call from many supporters of the war.

Besides Rhino and maybe one or two others here, where are you getting your concept of "many"?

So you're saying that people do not want to hear that news?

I'm saying that that news doesn't sell. I thought I'd made that clear.

A story about a new school, hospital, or infrastructure project can't run on weeks at a time. It's a short blurb before the weather and then we move on. Those stories have no longevity. But really Bill, I have a feeling that you already know that.

In a capitalist society, things that people don't want, don't sell. Things that people do want, sell. And successful companies offer products that sell (the ones that offer products that don't sell quickly go out of business.) Hence one could conclude that people do not want to hear news that doesn't sell - at least in a free market.

Of course. Earlier this year in Nebraska, a hospital received half a million dollars to add preventative health, mental and behavioral health, and social services to address unmet needs in the city of Columbus and surrounding areas. That didn't make CNN. A tornado that wiped out an entire town in Nebraska did, and will continue to make news for several days. That's the nature of news - a tornado that wipes out a town is simply more newsworthy to the average american than an appropriations bill.

Maybe its simply the case that if one stacked up all the potential good news stories along side the usual bad news news stories it would only serve to emphasise what a complete cock-up the whole situation is.

I mean if Fox lead with a good news story on how negotiations for the first Iraqi McDonalds franchise are going and the BBC lead with the murder of Iraqi childeren at a wedding party Fox are going to look even dumber than they do most of the rest of the time.
