miked10270 0 #1 June 22, 2004 You see "a few" pro-gun arguments on this thread, usually from Americans. And "a few" anti-gun arguments - usually from the Brits. So... A question for the Brit "anti-gun" folk... (At this point could the pro-gun folk here please leave and study the attached pics of guns I found for you? Thanks) Right. Now they've gone, the question is: If you moved to the US would you own a firearm? Why? Personally, If I was resident in the US I'd probably own a firearm. Mike. Kennedy 0 #2 June 22, 2004 Resident gun-nut, here (as officially appointed by no one in particular over in The Bonfire). not going to answer your question as it has no bearing on me, but I have one for you. Why would you choose to own firearms if you moved to the US? Would you choose to do so anywhere you moved if it were legal, or just here? edit: feel free to PM me to keep your thread on topicwitty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

miked10270 0 #6 June 22, 2004 QuoteWhy would you choose to own firearms if you moved to the US? Would you choose to do so anywhere you moved if it were legal, or just here? Excellent point. I was somewhat narrow in only referring to the US. Yes. If it was legal and "normal" then I'd certainly own a firearm. Ideally a couple of BIG firearms Mike. miked10270 0 #15 June 22, 2004 OK... New questions: 1. How many of these posts do I have to make before Tunaplanet finally sees guns? Or has Tunaplanet gone inexplicably blind (and how could this have happened). 2. Does anyone think that there may be something wrong with the search engine I'm using to find all these pictures of weapons? Mike. nacmacfeegle 0 #19 June 23, 2004 "If you moved to the US would you own a firearm? Why?" Okay, I spent a little time living in Texas, I didn't own a firearm because I never felt at serious risk. I felt more insecure on the roads than at home, crazy assed wrong side of the road drivers...... If I lived in a community where I thought that the risk to my personal safety was outweighed by the risk of my son (toddler) being injured by that same firearm, I would abstain. If I felt that owning the gun was, to my particular circumstances, risk beneficial, I would acquire the weapon, and the skills required to safely and responsibly operate it. But I'd probably procure a Harley way before a sidearm, or re-assess my circumstances and move. Nice pics, I'll have a Glock 36 DD please Mike.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. mr2mk1g 10 #21 June 23, 2004 Yes, if I moved to the US I'd own firearms. But then I own a limited selection of firearms in the UK and used to (back when I didn't live in a bloody city) enjoy shooting on a regular basis. They'd be owned for recreation, historical and aesthetic reasons though, not for home defence; the same reasons I keep them in this country. They would be kept in a locked gun cabinet when not in use, just as they are kept in this country. If one day they happened to be of use to me to defend my life or the life of another... well, so be it.
Newbie 0 #22 June 23, 2004 a friend and i used to enjoy weekly handgun target shooting here in the UK before large bore handguns were banned, following the Dunblane shooting, when it was legal to apply for a firearms certificate to hold handguns, as it is in the US. I still enjoy shooting when i get the chance abroad, but it's not something i actively seek out - i'd rather be jumping, but if it's a bad weather day, then sure, why not. As for owning one - would depend on a number of factors. If i was living by myself, quite possibly - if not, i would have to take into account whether my partner was happy to have one (she has already said she would not want to have a gun in the house - she is from NYC), whether there were children about etc. I'm not anti gun per se. Shooting can be fun, and it can certainly provide a source of security, but too many guns is just not a good thing, especially when mixed with the volatility of human nature.
