Dem Convention

We are very identical in our thoughts in this area. I have higher expectations of people in general though. Try to look at people in general instead of specific examples that stand out and you'll see why.

Unfortunately, I do have a bad tendency to focus on the negative things that I see more than the positive. I'm trying to re-train myself in that area though. ;) I would like to convince myself that people are inherently good, but it's not the easiest task...

Kallend is right - faith by definition means belief in the "complete absense of proof". So that does preclude pure science from taking a stand on the issue either for or against.

Ok, maybe science will have nothing to do with it... but I do believe that as time goes on, fewer and fewer people will believe in God or any other kind of religion. (Again, that's just -my- belief.)

Now... How did I manage to turn a "Dem Convention" thread into a religious thread??? :S Oops... :D

Russell and Whitehead did a fairly good job of proving that 1+1 = 2 using formal logic. It only took some 300 pages of Principia Mathematica to do it, and it's more convincing than, say, the story of the creation in Genesis.

yes, to you and me. Likely Pajarito and those guys would say otherwise

you have not.

what you have done is supplied "Lucy exists" as the best possible hypothesis in light of the situation. I certainly would fail to prove she does not exist.

Hey Zennie - she got you clean on this. Just because she's cute doesn't preclude the presence of a pretty powerful intellect........

No the bar works just fine - but then i don't have to back up your arguments - however for me to view them as valid, you do.

It has been fairly widely reported, both in media as well as on these forums. I really don't care if you chose to believe it, or chose to just disgard it without thinking about it. All your choice......

Some things people post on here, get me to read up on ctain view points and occasionally make me chance my mind. This is not a court of law, it is a discussion forum. Take from it whatever you want, even if that is being true to your name and hiding in your shell.

All I want you to do is show the evidence that he SAID what you are claiming he did.

I typed in your exact words and didn't come up with better than 75% hit. That in and of it's self leads me to believe that you would incorrectly quote him and say he said something that in fact he did not to attempt to prove your point.

And the proof is in the silence?:o

Hey did you all see that speech last night by Cruella De Vil? It was a wonderful speech about herself and how great she is. Glad to see she's not full of herself or anything.

DUDE! I had never seen her in live action, or speaking, before. She is FREAKY-SEEMING. That weird shaped mouth, the weird stilted speech and mannerisms... VERY CREEPY... :o

Definitely NOT charismatic as a potential first lady.

Oh and hold on a sec. Did you all see Kerry arrive in Boston on the water taxi with his old navy crewmates? ROFLMAO.

He's out there acting like he's on the Mekong Delta about to go into hostile territory. What a joke. This coming from a man who boasts about 3 purple hearts (one of which is rumored to be self-inflicted which was his third so he could go home).

Is it me or am I the only one that laughs at people bragging about purple hearts. Heads up, people. Purple hearts are a markmenship award for the enemy. It's certainly nothing to be proud of. If you receive a purple heart it's usually because you or someone in your unit fucked up.

Well I'm just glad Kerry was able to take Boston Harbor without any resistance. What a brave man he is.

I would have given my right nut to see his water taxi stall in the middle of Boston Harbor. Good times.

USUALLY? Ouch no. Please no. PLENTY of soldiers are injured and killed doing exactly what they're supposed to do, exactly how they're supposed to do it. Sometimes? Of course. Usually? Not even close.

Just to no one in particular... how can anyone, democrat or republican take any convention seriously when they have someone like Al Sharpton speak??? This guy should be in prison, and like Mikey Moore, is only about self promotion and keeping people pissed to stay in the news.

It just makes it hard to listen when you see people's reactions to Al at the convention... kinda reminded me of the glassy-eyed people at the evangelical, let-snakes-bite-you-and-speak-in-tongues churches. :S

Might want to re-think that one.

Creepier than Hillary? I think not...

That woman gives me the heebie-jeebies...

On a somewhat related note; am I the ONLY Democrat that feels like we are in some kind of denial as far as the people we choose to "worship" as our leaders? They all seem like very polarizing, controversial individuals; with histories that can easily be questioned. A few examples:

Bill Clinton (whose presidency I was a fan of, though I feel he did more damage to the legacy of the party than any one man in it's history); let's be honest; HE DID GET A BLOWJOB FROM AN INTERN IN THE OVAL OFFICE AND LIED ABOUT IT UNDER OATH.

Hillary Clinton (who almost made me laugh with her "I know alot about health care" remark; you had the ear of the most powerful man on the planet for eight years, and accomplished nothing; I hardly see you as an "expert"); related to the above; A WOMAN WHO CONSIDERS STANDING BY HER ADULTEROUS HUSBAND TO BE SOME TWISTED SHOW OF HER "INNER STRENGTH". That, and she quite frankly creeps alot of people out with her Stepford-esque manner.

Al Sharpton (I did enjoy his speech, I think his comment that the right to vote for blacks is sacred because it was earned in blood was very moving); who has yet to acknowledge the fact that he RUINED THE CAREERS AND LIVES OF INNOCENT MEN IN HIS RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF A TRUMPED UP RACE CHARGE FOR POLITICAL GAIN.

Finally, Ted Kennedy, the so-called "King of The Convention" (who, quite honestly, looked and sounded a little loaded during his speech); a man who afer a drunk driving accident LEFT A YOUNG WOMAN TO DROWN IN ORDER TO SAVE HIS OWN SKIN. What amazes me was that he would ever consider trying to be elected president with that in his past.

Now, I am not saying that the Republicans are a bunch of boy scouts, but can't the Democratic party pick some new "heroes" who don't have MAJOR issues that we have to turn a blind eye to?

I am tired of having to look at them in a positive light "in spite of"...

That is like comparing giant minitor to a comodo dragon.

Or a three toed to a four toed sloth - they are so similar - yet scary in their own way.

i agree with you typicalfish about the poor quality of many of the Democrats -- particularly in their personal character.

However, I do think that there are some rising stars in the Democrat party -- they just happen to be moderates and when it comes to party platform and such it is ddifficult for them to get that national recognition that is needed. This needs to change -- just a matter of when.

A few have been spotlighted at the convention == Obama seems to have some umifying things to say -- and also made comments similar to what Bill Cosby said about African Americans needing to do better. Also, John Edwards, while I do not agree with his politics, is someone who has drive, leadership, and the smarts.

I think that we will see the rise of more moderates in the Democrat party that will slowly gain more strength -- unions are losing their hold and trial lawyers know that they may have to take some limits or it will bankrupt our country. This heartens me because the two party system does NOT work for me -- and I think that many Americans probably feel the same way and are dissillusioned by it.
