Guest #26 July 29, 2004 QuoteQuote I fail to understand how releasing photos of Kerry wearing a clean-room suit constitutes "dirty tricks". I for one am jealous of him. Well, I'd be jealous of Dukakis, too. Not many civilians get to ride around in a tank. Of course, this picture essentially ended his run for the white house. I think it's clear, and relatively obvious that the Kerry campaign is afraid of exactly the same thing. For good reason, too. _Am I like the telling remarks that accompanied this column: "When President George W. Bush landed on the carrier wearing a flight suit, reporters were outraged that the public didn't make the Dukakis tank connection. They wrongly assumed that Michael Dukakis' error was looking silly. Serving in the Navy from Carter to Clinton's second term the overwhelming message myself and those around me got from the Democratic parties leadership was embarrassment. They kind of knew they needed us but didn't want to do anything to support us." "During Clinton's term it was back to "don't ask, don't tell" and no I am not talking about his policy on homosexuals in the military. Military personnel in the White House were asked not to wear their uniforms. When President Clinton visited my ship wearing a flight jacket he didn't look silly; it was more like seeing a PETA activist wearing a fur coat." All emphasis is mine. mh ."The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat."
PhillyKev 0 #27 July 29, 2004 Looking at the gallup poll right now...hmmm, Kerry leading among likely voters, leading among registered voters, leading among all adults, leading among people that have definitely decided, has a lower number of people likely to change their mind. Simple - one word answer - get used to it - Wait for it - here it comes . . . . KERRY see THAT is why we are talking about flip flops.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Why -- because there is no possibility of disagreement without the mass media? Give me a break -- do you really think so little of other people? Me, for that matter? It is just possible that there are intelligent people out there who disagree with the RNC platform, and who agree with the DNC platform, at least enough to vote for Kerry over Bush. turtlespeed 221 #31 July 29, 2004 QuoteAnd my one word response is simple also. Irrelevant. Of course it would be - to one who disagrees with the subject, finds a bit of offence in the subject matter, and perhaps agrees, inside, that the guy DOES look stupid there, and it might hurt his chances in the election. Wendy - I was being sarcastic and forgot the smiley - it was a stb at the volume of left leaning media we have. On a more serious note - No, I don't think that todays world would support a liberal candidate on words alone. Not without having the issues sensationalized as the media does now. Liberalism is a "Feel Good" party. It concerns itself far too far into peoples responsibility for them selves. Without the sensationalism that we have now - I serriously doubt that people would respond to the democratic party as they do now.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Sure there are enough intelligent people. It's not the intelligent people who sway an election. It's the sound-bite types who don't listen to both sides of the street...the media influences these types the most. Twice Bill Clinton was elected so it is perfectly feasible that Kerry could also be. However, Kerry is much further to the left, and has so little of the political savy that Clinton possesses. The reason Kerry isn't getting traction is because this election has become a referrendum on Bush, not a vote FOR Kerry. The majority of the media spins towards the left...but now that FOX News and talk radio have become such a force, the left is screaming bloody murder that there needs to be balance. What they mean is talk radio and Fox need to go away so they can have their monopoly back. One more thing...just because a person is intelligent, it doesn't mean the are necessarily correct. Even if they are correct, the electoral process could also provide some interesting twists. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! In this case, what does the source matter? It is news, maybe not front page, but it is news. Kerry dressed up in the bunny suit, Kerry had his picture taken, people are upset about it. As the subject says, Big Fuckin' Deal - but it is news. As far as the Drudge Report goes, don't discount them - it was (IIRC) the Drudge Report that broke the Clinton/Lewinski scandle. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends.
