kelpdiver 2 #26 August 3, 2004 QuoteYour figures are way off from the ones being presented by most polling data. Glad to see you're content that you found one poll that suits your agenda and now want to scream from the mountain tops. Did you actually read it, Tuna? I see nothing about it that looks suspect. It clearly states that the next convention will probably even it back, but the effects of the last week were to push several toss up states into Kerry's column for now. This site is far more useful than the national poll of the day from your favorite pollster. You can see how Florida is currently Kerry, but within the margin of error. Ohio is 5 pts for Bush, which is a bit firmer. California, no surprise, is not going to be battled for. Arizona is amazingly open. Historically Labor Day was the big benchmark on voters - most have made up their mind by now. Polls before then and before both conventions has been good for chatter and fundraising, but less so for prediction. But as the number of independents has risen, that seems less true. There could be wild swings in October, and the debates may play a meaningful role again.
billvon 2,990 #27 August 3, 2004 >Probably one of the more respected polls has been Rasmussen. Ironically, Rasmussen was one of the sources that site used. >We can throw back a kajillion websites all day long. What does it prove? If the Dems are ahead - you will explain how it proves nothing. If the GOP is ahead - you will explain how the Dems like to bury their heads in the sand and ignore facts. >Bush now has the chance to boost his numbers (something Kerry couldn't do). Kerry started out at about 30% and is now close to 50% - he hasn't had much of a problem boosting his numbers. Which really isn't to his credit; with one screwup after another, Bush has had far more influence over Kerry's rising popularity than Kerry has. But the RNC will no doubt bump Bush's numbers up a bit.
tunaplanet 0 #28 August 3, 2004 QuoteKerry started out at about 30% and is now close to 50% Again, stating numbers from one website. As I stated earlier, we could play political ping-pong back and forth all day by spewing 1001 different websites stating 1001 different numbers. Doesn't prove anything. Bill, you need to read my explanation to you of how to determine whether something is a lie or not in the other thread. The same concept applies here. Good for Bush, true. Bad for Bush, not true. It works for sound bites, polls, statistics, policies, and propaganda. It makes life so much simpler. Give in..... give in..... you know you want to. Pssst...I'll give you a $200 tax credit to sweeten the pot.

Mea Culpa - I thought the thread was about people's inability to make up their minds, so I gave a prime example for comparison purposes.... Steel 0 #35 August 4, 2004 Quote> for the moment, Kerry has received a boost. He is now ahead in the electoral college 328 to 210, with all 50 states and D.C. reporting for duty (we had two ties until today). The Wall Street Journal's estimate using a different methodology is 318 to 220. Close enough for government work. ------------------------------------------------------------------ I don't know clicky but I try here. look here otherwise its just http://www.presidentelect.org/e2004.htmlIf I could make a wish, I think I'd pass.
