Did you actually read it, Tuna? I see nothing about it that looks suspect. It clearly states that the next convention will probably even it back, but the effects of the last week were to push several toss up states into Kerry's column for now.

This site is far more useful than the national poll of the day from your favorite pollster. You can see how Florida is currently Kerry, but within the margin of error. Ohio is 5 pts for Bush, which is a bit firmer. California, no surprise, is not going to be battled for. Arizona is amazingly open.

Historically Labor Day was the big benchmark on voters - most have made up their mind by now. Polls before then and before both conventions has been good for chatter and fundraising, but less so for prediction. But as the number of independents has risen, that seems less true. There could be wild swings in October, and the debates may play a meaningful role again.

Kerry started out at about 30% and is now close to 50% - he hasn't had much of a problem boosting his numbers. Which really isn't to his credit; with one screwup after another, Bush has had far more influence over Kerry's rising popularity than Kerry has. But the RNC will no doubt bump Bush's numbers up a bit.

Bill, you need to read my explanation to you of how to determine whether something is a lie or not in the other thread. The same concept applies here. Good for Bush, true. Bad for Bush, not true.
