CanuckInUSA 0 #1 September 1, 2004 All I have to say is that the guy is brilliant and Republicans are ####### idiots for supporting GWB instead of this guy (big money talks I guess). I know I'm 4 years too late with this. But ... Oh by the way Canada beat the USA tonight 2-1. jazzjumper 0 #3 September 1, 2004 Brilliant? You don't follow John McCain much do you? He's okay, but not much of a straight party guy. As far as all us Republicans are idiots for not supporting him? So, you'd rather have Gore or Kerry as President? That is what would happen. Oh yeah, but you're a Canadian. Sorry, you vote doesn't count. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!
PhillyKev 0 #4 September 1, 2004 QuoteSo, you'd rather have Gore or Kerry as President? That is what would happen. I doubt it. I'd vote for McCain between those 3. And know a lot of other people who are voting for Kerry who would as well. I think he'd win in a landslide.

I haven't followed much of his voting record but he seems to be a straight shooter/honest kinda guy. If Bush wins then it will be Cheney in '08. Cheney can't win an election, maybe the Republicans will give McCain the nod then.
white_falcon 0 #6 September 1, 2004 Cheney will NOT run in "08. He could not win, and he has already said MANY times he will not run for public office again, which is a wise thing. My vote is Mccain '

TheAnvil 0 #9 September 1, 2004 Condi Rice in '08. Of course, everyone would prefer JACKASS '08 but that probably won't happen, as I'd never be able to win a Republican primary with my desire to legalize marijuana. And the fact that I am not a Republican, I just vote for them in national elections. Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! Well, yeah, if it were McCain, Gore, or Kerry, McCain would win in a landslide (today, not in 2000). However, if McCain could beat Bush, he would have the nomination. QuoteI agree, I almost hope Kerry wins this election so McCain can run in '08. I haven't followed much of his voting record but he seems to be a straight shooter/honest kinda guy. Okay, but McCain won't get the Republican node in 08. He knows the republican base (necessary to his election) wouldn't show. QuoteIf Bush wins then it will be Cheney in '08. Cheney can't win an election, maybe the Republicans will give McCain the nod then. Cheney probably won't run in 08 due to his health. Frankly, McCain will probably not be a factor in the next campaign. George Bush will win in Nov, and whomever he annoints will get the Republican node in 2008. CanuckInUSA 0 #14 September 1, 2004 QuoteYou can fix that...apply for citizenship when you are eligible. I don't mean to be too confrontational, but are you familiar with this process or is this just a blanket statement? Too many Americans think that someone like myself (I am a skilled/experienced software engineer) can just show up and say "Hey I want to be an American" and the next thing you know [stamp] you're a yank. INS is actually a bunch of assholes to myself every year and I basically have to fight with them just to get accepted for another year or work eligility. I know it's nothing more than a power trip to them (seeing me sweat), but it's just the reality I have to live with in order to work in the USA. So becoming a citizen isn't even close to being on my mind. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Plus we'll just have to see who wins the World Cup. The Czechs are struggling and the Russians and Slovaks have yet to play (Eastern Europe). Sweden looks to be poised to be 2-0 and Finland is 1-0 (Western Europe). Canada (with Canadian born players) beat the USA (with a Canadian born player on their roster) last night 2-1. Of course it's still early in the tourney and the marbles won't be out on the table until this time next week. Of course what does this all have to do with John McCain? I'm hiijacking my own thread. jazzjumper 0 #22 September 1, 2004 QuoteI don't mean to be too confrontational, but are you familiar with this process or is this just a blanket statement? Yes, I'm quite familiar with it. My g/f is a permanent resident who will be applying shortly. Are you a permanent resident yet? If not, why not? Get your company to sponsor you. Hell, pay the fee yourself if you really want to be a citizen. Rather than bitch about the people running the process (like so many Americans do), just go out and do it. Yeah it's a pain, yes it takes time, yes, you must deal with the INS feather merchants. But to say you aren't applying it's because the INS are a bunch of assholes, don't hate the player, hate the game. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit! PhillyKev 0 #23 September 1, 2004 I know several people who have lived here since they were kids but haven't become US citizens for one main reason. They don't want to have to relenquish citizenship to their old country. One guy I know has a british father, german mother, and was born in Mexico so has 3 way citizenship. He's lived here since he was an infant, but doesn't want to give that up.

However, if McCain could beat Bush, he would have the nomination. In 2000, I would have willingly voted for McCain over Gore (and certainly over Bush). I'd've had a hard time thinking about it had it been McCain vs. Bradley. I know an awful lot of Democrats (and non-Democrat liberals and independents) who think like me, and quite a few Republicans who liked McCain. Putting Bush forward was in some ways a power play -- "we Republicans will take control of the country in any damn way we want to, and you'll just have to live with it." And whoever Bush "anoints" might actually have to do something in an election to win; it's not really particularly automatic, if you look at the past. Frankly, anyone that Bush would anoint would be more a reflection of his handlers and the party hacks than of him personally -- more machine politics. Just what we need Oh -- and my vote counts.
