The Russians have been pounding the fuck out of Chechnya for years man. Its precisely their 'carpet bomb the fuckers' approach to suppressing the Chechens that has resulted in this tragedy. Compounded in no small way by recent election fixing by Moscow.

The iron fist that everyone seems to be advocating has been applied to this region for years, and its clearly not working. It didn't work in Northern Ireland, its not working in Palestine, it doesn't work in Afghanistan, its clearly unsuccessful in Iraq.

That's because in none of those places did the conquerors actually truly kill all of the people in those places and colonize them with their own.

Sure, we can say that half-measures aren't working/haven't worked in all those other places. It's precisely because they're half-measures.

I guess the one solution that hasn't been tried is to LET GO OF SOME FUCKING LAND, give people a new "country," and say "THAT'S IT. DON'T THINK THAT MORE TERRORISM WILL GET YOU MORE LAND. If you try that we WILL come and OBLITERATE you for breaking the faith of this deal."

It's amazing how obstinate countries can be. It costs them thousands of lives every year.

Israel tried that with the Palestinians. All it got them was more demands for more land.
