Well, "may have been" is not "were".

The White House spokesman did not challenge their authenticity.

Maybe the documents are as bogus as the Swift Boat Veterans ads.

We'll see. I'm willing to wait until the investigation is complete and it is verified.

Wouldn't be suprised. Took a truth in journalism class way back when. Don't remember the specifics about the story, but we were shown some news magazine show, I believe it was 60 minutes, as it was aired, and then the same piece before it was edited. The editing made it look like the people being interviewed were saying the exact opposite of what they really were.

Same tactics used by Moore and democrat propaganda machine, and same tactics used by RNC spin doctors. Politics as usual. Forging documents is taking it to a new level, though.

Why would they? It just gives the dems more press.

Yeah, I'm sure the Swift Boat Veterans ads forged the video of Kerry.

Well, I can tell you four things:
1. It's quite difficult to make an IBM selectrive I do superscript.
2. If you'll examine the documents, you'll see that the font alignment is laser exact. NEVER would an IBM selectric do that.
3. It wasn't SOP even when I got in to take the time to super/subscript anything not academic in the USAF.
4. Since someone created the exact same doument with Word 2003 and the same font (and I mean exactly), I'd find it hard to believe

But, I'm really glad you have such an open mind about it all.

And I'm sure Kerry forged the videos of a couple of those guys saying the exact opposite of what they're saying now 10 years ago.

Which ones? And are you the open minded guy who says they are being thoughtful? Oh right, that is just Kerry.

Face it, Swift Boat guys have more people cooroberating their stories. Hell, Kitty Kelly can't even get quotes from Susan Bush right...and certainly has no one (except her invested publisher) supporting her.

That slow rumbling you hear is the DNC imploding. It will continue for just under two more months.

If the documents are forgeries, then how is it possible that you can call CBS 60 Minutes II the liars? Wouldn't the lie be that of the perpetrators of the forgery?

I see this as exactly the same type of situation as was created by the yellow cake incident. A forgery given to one organization and retold by another.

If you're not going to hold GWB responsible for the retelling of the yellow cake intel (and certainly that was much more serious both in its allegation and resulting actions), then I find it hypocritcal of anyone to hold CBS accountable for this.

And, this has yet to be proven to be a forgery. (Oh, but wait, I think you guys stil claim that even though the yellow cake documents were forgeries . . . somehow the situation was still real. Hmmm, seems like it's still a very valid analogy.)

THis is What CBS hast to say:
Quote

CBS stood by its reporting. "As is standard practice at CBS News, the documents in the '60 Minutes' report were thoroughly examined and their authenticity vouched for by independent experts," CBS News said in a statement. "As importantly, '60 Minutes' also interviewed close associates of Colonel Jerry Killian. They confirm that the documents reflect his opinions and actions at the time."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,131954,00.html

I don't know.... CBS might take a hit for this if they are Forged... THey are trying to make a case that they did test the authenticity.

Why do they even say "...the documents reflect his opinions and actions at the time." ? That make it look a bit suspicious to me ... Like saying, even if they aren't real, that is what he would have said!!

True QUADE, I don't blame CBS Yet. There is no evidence as of now to say they "knew" anything. However, if evidence does come up.... they are screwed!!!!

It isn't the fault of CBS, although it does affect their credibility because they rushed the story on the air without properly checking it out.

This is nothing more than a desperate attempt by those who support a floundering, flip flopping, Presidential Candidate, to try and get his poll numbers up by any means. This combined with the recent volly of personal atttacks on the President will have a severe backlash which is starting to pisss off the "undecideds".

A paper slams Bush and it's the gospel but you require proof to disprove its authenticity? Close enough to proof?

Quote

Bouffard said the CBS documents appear to have been copied about 10 times in the state he saw them. Nevertheless, he states, "All the documents have been created on the same printer. And the proportional spacing and the common characteristics of numbers like 4 and 7 and letters like lower case c and upper case G are beyond the capabilities of any of the typewriter impact specimens I have in my collection. The centering of headings is also beyond the capabilities of any typewriter I know of."

His conclusion: "It is remotely possible there is some typewriter that has the capability to do all this ... but it is more likely these documents were generated in the common Times New Roman font and printed out on a computer printer that did not exist at the time they were supposedly created."

Don't know his name, but one of the guys in the commercial introduced Kerry at some speaking engagement a few years ago and in the video I saw, praised Kerry and said he personally witnessed Kerry turning his boat into enemy fire to confront the enemy and saw him receive his wounds from enemy fire.

Being thoughtful is changing your opinion on an issue, not telling two complete different accounts of an actual event.

Ah, so Kerry said he threw his medals over the fence, and then came back only after someone challenged him and said he threw someone else's medals over the fence, and then finally it was his ribbons he threw. We forced on all these flip flops, he said we routinely in the military refer to medals and ribbons as interchangeable. Well, I've been in for 5 times as long as he is, and we all know there is a significant distinction between ribbons and medals.

My question is, is Kerry being thoughtful or telling two (or more) different accounts of an actual event? :DRemember, these aren't other people's takes, but his words from his mouth(s).

BTW, all these audios have been aired on Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity's shows. I could dig up links to them all if pressed.

CBS just lost all credibility. They are at fault and should be held responsible. Maybe next time they will actually investiogate the next smear evidence they get instead of just running it blindly. It's called being responsible.

I bet anyone a week's paycheck that Quade will flip the spotlight and slam Bush. Watch.

Pretty safe bet since I already did that a bit higher in the thread.

Just so you don't have to go back. Seems kinda familiar . . . kinda like the yellow cake intel.

I occasonally have to leave the unix world and use Word and it always pisses me off when it insists on capitalizing or subscripting for me when it thinks it knows what I'm doing. Much of the time it is quite wrong. If it turns out that this blew someone's forgery, HA HA!

And if CBS is responsible for it, seems like a good time to retire Dan anyway. He already looked halfway in the grave in 2000.
