Bodyflight.Net 0 #30 October 16, 2004 QuoteHow is he going to pay for his new healthcare program, etc? That says nothing about reducing the deficit, etc. I'll look for more. Hi Jib, It's my understanding after listening and reading further into Kerry's ideas, that he will find the funding, by stopping the waste. We send money, and spend money in a great many areas that are unnecessary. Our financial interests are so scattered that in fact we are wasting money in areas that are LESS important and if we redirect our focus to the areas that are MORE important, we can regain some financial control. Listen I was happy to get my tax refund check and all, but I too would GLADLY let them keep it if they would put it to good use. And the majority I guess will be deciding in fact if Bush has been irresponsible about his job. I think Kerry's plan is to try to "even the playing field" a little bit for American's.. perhaps it would be unfair to those "rich" people to have to pay more, but as a society, we do not benefit from having our citizens living in such a broad spectrum of situations. Fix Jobs and Society... to me, it's simple. Cut full time employment to max 30 hours per week This will put the unemployed back to work as more workers will be needed to complete the work week Families will have more time to spend with eachother, the benefits of this are too many to list here.. communication, bonding, less outside influence, quality of parenting, less $$ on child care, etc.. This will boost the economy a little, some people will immediately experience a small monthly loss, but it will boost because so many people will now be workign & paying taxes which in the end will be better for everyone This will reduce crime rates as previously unemployed families will now be able to move up in society with gainful employment and live in better neighborhoods, to me the benefits of such a small act of congress (so to speak) are infinite, and would afford our too busy society a chance to break and pay attention to our families, which so desperately need us and our guidance and mostly our time. I however am voting Libertarian, although i feel Kerry would be a satisfactory alternative to Badnarik. However, BUSH must be stopped, before he turns this country into his ideal. His ideas are bad for us.. we do not want what he has us headed for.. he may be a good Texan, but he's a BAD American President.
penniless 0 #31 October 16, 2004 QuoteReading that you were in the Corps, I assume you are a gun owner. Do you want all your guns to be taken away forever? No matter what the other liberals on this forum say, that is the goal of John Kerry. He has voted for it time and time again. As a matter of fact, He has never voted for any second amendment rights. He wants to trade our sovereignty for the general opinions of some third world leaders through the UN. Having been in the US military, I would think you of all people would get the importance of our sovereignty, regardless if you agree with the fact that we should not be in any certain area of operations. Regardless of what the President wants regarding guns or abortion, only the Supreme Court can actually do anything.
penniless 0 #32 October 16, 2004 QuoteI really want to know what Kerry has done the last 20 or so years. He is not running on his record...so what did he accomplish? Not being George Bush is a a major positive for Kerry. Bush has had 4 years as the "most powerful man in the world" with a Republican Congress at his beck and call, and he has messed up most everything he touched. The only positive I can think of for Bush is cleaning up Afghanistan, and then he did a half-ass job of that on account of his fixation with Iraq. Why didn't Bush follow through on his 2000 RNC speech where he made fixing Social Security his priority? Did Kerry stop him? There's no possible way that Kerry could be worse. InflightSupv 0 #33 October 16, 2004 Quote Regardless of what the President wants regarding guns or abortion, only the Supreme Court can actually do anything. I disagree. While the courts, Supreme or otherwise, have been making law in the last 15 years or so, that is not the intent of the Constitution. The Judicial branch is to interpret the Constitution, not author it. The Executive branch, as in the Pres, does in fact push for certain bills to be introduced into the Legislative branch, or Congress. Remember Clinton's Assault Weapons Ban???? To say that you don't have to worry about your candidate introducing some bill to ban weapons, is to stick your head in the sand. NRA has rated John Kerry and John Edwards as the two worst Senators of them all, in the area of 2nd Amendment issues and the record of votes on those same issues. Higher even than Ted Kennedy on the list. While I don't necessarily get my choices for President from the NRA, it should tell you the agenda that these candidates have, by the fear that the NRA has of these two. I'm confused. Is this your plan, or Kerry's? ~Can you do with %25 less pay per month, and still live in the manner you choose? ~Can most of America? (Not trust fund babies, either...) ~What happens when a project takes more than 30 hours, the deadline looms, and now you (the employer) have to pay overtime - at %25 earlier?? Something is really wrong with that plan...and I really hope Kerry didn't propose it. tbrown 26 #35 October 16, 2004 I've already voted. California has early voting stations up and running and I spotted one in the checkout line at a local Albertsons the other day. So I bellied up to the bar and voted. It's not like I'm about to change my mind about anyone or anything over the next three weeks, so I got it over with, got the little "I Voted" sticker with the flag, and got to diddle around with the cute little etch-a-sketch ballot machines they're using now. I voted for Kerry/Edwards. Or more specifically to Electors pledged to Kerry Edwards. Remember, we the people do not elect the President. If we did, Al Gore would be running for re-election. And before you start flaming me, I'm not stating an opinion, merely a fact. But I'm already done. Voted for Kerry, for reall, so neener-neener-neener ! Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! This entire idea is based upon similar practicies in other countries. Yes, I can do with 10 hours less pay per week, and still live in the manner I choose, to enjoy more time with my family and to see many Americans rise from total poverty. Can most of America? I'm sure not without alot of whining about having to live some type of lesser quality of life, but they will adjust.. are you saying we can possibly make change without changing? Are you not willing to sacrifice for the common good? When a project takes longer than 30 hours? The same thing that happens now, only there will be more people who are employed, and therefore less stress and no overtime since there would be plenty of workers to go around. It's ok that you don't like it, that's the beauty of our democracy.. we can completely disagree on how to do things and it all comes down to how who we vote for actually does it. Thanks for your opinions.
