Non-lethal weapons AND sports assholes...

Sounds like one of the OC/pepper spray paintball rounds

Are those that hard and high-velocity?

I was thinking maybe she got hit with one of those 12 ga. beanbag rounds, or a rubber bullet.

It makes me sick that so many people have no problem with this stuff being used by police against crowds because of the bullshit monicker they stuck on it all: "non-lethal." People take that to mean "non-dangerous," or "incapable of killing."

dont sound like she was out of the way to me!

its pretty obvious when the police show up, unless you plan on ending your night with a trip to the police station or the hospital, that its time for you to find someplace else to celebrate.

unless they riot over a GAME, and fuck up other peoples shit, then they deserve at least death, maybe torture first, because they obviously have NO lives and only steal air from the rest of us.

shit like this needs to be stopped before it starts, things like dry stadiums and dry stadium parking lots, and no entrance to the parking lot unless you have a ticket. although in towns like boston its even harder with thousands of drunk horny college students living a few hundred feet from the stadium.

of course that might quickly lead to an end of all stadium sports when people realize that theyve been getting so goddamn loaded that they didnt realize the pastime they loved has turned into a big whore house.

ITS A GAME people, a game your not even a part of! get over it and get a life asshole!

Easier said than done. I was having dinner on a sidewalk table in South Beach last year when the Marlins won the Series and suddenly every drunk with a car headed there. Total gridlock, noise, people.

By the time a situation gets out of hand, you may be stuck there, and cops aren't known for being conservative with their use of rubber bullets, bean bags, etc, esp when faced with this sort of drunken mob.

They are your average paintball round but with OC instead of paint in them. Some of the paintball guns can put a paintball out there at a pretty high velocity but getting hit in the eye with just about any projectile is going to cause damage or death especially something the size of a gumball.

Nice.

So by your thoughts, they should have been using chain guns? Maybe bring in a C130?

Sounds to me like the girl that got killed wasn't "rioting" . From the video, it looked like there wasn't really ANY riot, just a bunch of drunks and people partying. I've seen way more mayhem in NewOrleans at martigras and no-one got shot at. The cops just take out the idiots, lock 'em up till sober, and let the city work crews clean up the mess in the am.

Ever actually seen a riot? I have. People throwing bricks and burning police cars. The cops at that time just pulled back, watched and went in and busted the a-holes after they had exhausted themselves. Seems a bit better than opening up on a crowd.

Bull shit. You remember the riot on South Street a few years ago on Fat Tuesday? I was there, walking out of a bar my friend managed. A few assholes were causing trouble while the majority were just milling around enjoying themselves. But instead of the police going after and arresting those assholes, they decided to march their horses into the crowd and shove EVERYONE with shields and hit them with clubs to clear the street. I had just walked out the door and was on my way home. People were running as fast as they could but it's kind of hard in a shoulder to shoulder crowd, and if you happened to be at the back of the crowd you got hit whether you were trying to leave or not.

This stink is all the media's fault. Why can't they report on all the fans the police _didn't_ kill? They always have to harp on the negative, when some really positive things (like the fact that no one was killed by a nuclear weapon in that stadium) were going on there.

>Huh? Am I missing something here?

Sorry, trying to be funny and failing. There are several people on this board who complain that the media does nothing but report the negative in Iraq. "Why do they report on all the killings and bombings and ignore the fact that most of the people in Iraq didn't get killed?" Because the people who didn't get killed aren't the story; we expect innocent people to not get killed, whether they're Iraqis at a wedding or spectators at a ballgame. The ones who do get killed get the news coverage (which is a good thing, I think.)

Outrage in Kenmore

by Russ Stein

"Every account of the murder on the Internet includes some version of Boston Police Commissioner Kathleen O'Toole's statement: "I also condemn in the harshest words possible the actions of the punks who turned our city's victory into an opportunity for violence and mindless destruction."

I don't know, but if I was the spokesperson for a police department which just murdered a 21-year-old journalism student with brand new, untested, "Less-Than-Lethal," lethal pepperball guns, I wouldn't be holding press conferences denouncing anybody for anything. No, I'd be keeping my fat ugly mouth shut, that's what I'd be doing, if I was Kathleen O'Toole.

She's lying. She's spinning us to make us think this was just some unavoidable tragedy caused by a sports fan riot.

Lies! BS!

I was there, and her "punk riot" is completely untrue. Was Kathleen O'Toole there? I want to know, was Kathleen O'Toole in Kenmore Square after midnight on Thursday morning? Because I certainly was, and I didn't see any punks, any violence, or any mindless destruction, unless you count the violence perpetrated by the punks of the Boston Police Department."

No riot according to this witness.

yeah, no trouble.....
70-80K people, cars flipped over and burned, 3 cops hospitalized after being hit with Bricks, windows in 2 banks smashed out ....

But there wasn't a riot!!!!!
It was a peaceful demonstration
by several thousand drunk college kids.

I have no sypathy for any parties involved.
I am die Hard sox fan, grew up in Beantown,
and I would not go near downtown if they win
the WS.... Fuck that.

The population of Boston in the summer is
about 700,000. During school, the city population
reaches about 1.5 million!!!! What does that say???

Too many young drunk assholes out looking for trouble!!!!

I see. Well, since we're not trying to keep this thread focused on the original post anymore, then, yes, of course it is not newsworthy. Boring stories of success don't sell advertising time. Bring on the gore!

Yes, baseball fans in the US not being killed by the cops is just like Iraqi families no longer being dumped into mass graves. That's almost as good of an analogy as comparing the terrorists who murder children with car bombs at sewage treatment plant openings to the Israeli soldiers who inflict collateral damage during targeted killings of Islamic Jihad leaders.

For the record, I agree with your point about newsworthiness, I just think your analogies leave a lot to be desired.

Maybe my comment was to vague or you did not read article.

No rioting in Kenmore, where 21 year old was murdered by police.

As for those who were rioting, and destroying others property, they should have to pay for what they have done.

Really... NO RIOTING IN KENMORE???? Were you there?
Don't tell me there was no violence nor rioting in Kenmore. Ask the owners of the Cask'n Flagon.... Ask the owners of the McDonalds in Kenmore.... No rioting. Don't pretend like it was a peaceful gathering of 80,000 people. It wasn't it was far from it.

Also there was a full riot on Boylston St. Cops have radios and they knew what was heading their way.
Murder is a bit Harsh... The partner of the COP who hit the girl was struck in the head with a brick PRIOR to the girl being shot.

Don't be stupid and try to pin this on the cops.... They were defending their own lives.

"Non-Lethal Weapons"

Who the hell coined that phrase? Tasers, Rubber Bullets, CS, Pepper spray, Etc... are NOT non-lethal. They are properly classified as Less-Lethal.

Again, it comes down to "Situation Assessment" and the officer's selected "Minimum Force". I seriously doubt that the weapon used was so accurate for the officer to say "Watch me shoot that bitch in the eye"

As for the "Media Coverage", I bet that by the time the cameras got there and sufficient cops were present, most of the rioters were doing the "Who-Me?-Walk": This is the walk folk do between throwing the bottles, smashing the windows and generally buggering up the environment, and moving to somewhere the cops ain't so they can start throwing the bottles etc...

Here's another one, from my neck of the woods-

Clicky

The irony of being killed by a Taser for stealing electricity aside, this seems like a pretty lame cause for using a Taser. Sure, the guy's a shitbag for stealing electricity, but this is a classic case of the bar for violence from a police officer towards a member of the public being lowered too far. I think Tasers are to be used for self-defense, not to make it easier to move people around. And now he's dead.
